Part of UCLA basketball coach Ben Howland's morning routine includes mulling a daily statistical package that's already on his desk by the time he arrives at his Westwood office.
The statistics are compiled by Joe Hillock, the Bruins' director of basketball operations, and have nothing to do with the previous day's practice and everything to do with the NBA. Howland likes to keep track of all his former players by perusing the box scores.

With our football team floundering,
it’s nice to know that even though this may not a year of statistical greatness for UCLA, we have a fantastic coach and a great program.

So you are going to give up during SC week
and then come back here to root for the basketball team? Doesn’t work that way.

Hmmm...
I don’t see where Centric would give anyone the impression that he’s giving up on anything. I, ALWAYS look forward to basketball season more than football season (maybe because I’m a high school band director and take in about 40,000 football games a year), but I still want to see the UCLA FB team out for blood every single game.
Neu will get it goin. I really believe next year, with minimal respect to how the rest of this year plays out, we should win 8-9 games and be in the top 4 in the conference. Year after year, being able to expect the Howland kind of consistency is going to be exciting as hell, but it’s not quite here yet. BB is a few years ahead and it’s great that with all the frustration this year with FB we can take solace that we really don’t have to worry too much about the direction of out BB program.

Centric is not giving up on USC game?
Well in that case I’d like him to clarify this again (emphasis added):
I’m probably going to get stoned for this
but I don’t put that much weight into the $C game these next few years. I agree with rye. U$C is a top five team in the nation this year with a true freshman at QB. I can’t see them getting much worse next year, while we haven’t even cracked the top 25 this year. Even though, as a UCLA Bruin, I do place a lot of weight in the $C game every year, I also think we should take into account the reality that the talent gap between $C and UCLA is very wide. There will be a time and a place where I expect us to beat the trOJans, but that time is not now, and honestly I don’t see it in the near future.
Sounds like someone who has already conceded the SC game with weeks left in this season. Someone who quits on our football team with weeks left in the season shouldn’t try to ride on the bandwagon of our hoops program.

Hey
I was doing that for Coach Howland last year! LOL!
But hey, what do I know. I’m just the 800 lbs bruin in the room.

Just goes to show how involved he is with his players.
