BN Gameday: Oregon State Game Thread
UCLA Bruins at Oregon St. Beavers, Oct 31, 2009 1:00 PM PDT
I think this is the first game thread in the history of this blog during which none of us will get to watch our Bruins on live television during a regular season football or Ben Ball game. I think we have put up game threads before for exhibition Ben Ball games that weren't shown on television. So this is a first.
The UCLA ISP Sports Radio Network (KLAC 570 AM) is broadcasting the game with Chris Roberts (yeah good luck with him), Matt Stevens and Wayne Cook. That radio feed will also be carried live on Sirius XM Satellite Radio (Channel 155 on Sirius and 104 on XM). Fox Sports Northwest is doing the delayed telecast that will be shown on FSN Prime Ticket in the Los Angeles area beginning at 3:30. You can bet the quality of that coverage is going to be high school level production.
Anyway, for those who are wondering about weather conditions the latest forecast from weather.com predicted showers this morning in Corvallis but it was supposed to become "less numerous during the afternoon hours" with a high of 59F. If you want to get caught up on our chatter leading up to kickoff here is our full coverage.
Guess some of you will be disciplined enough to shut yourself out from internet and television and tune it at 3:30. I will be clicking through online sites such as the the official game tracker, WWL, Sportsline.com, and the Daily Bruin tweeter feed to keep track of the game. Also, if you are listening to the game or even better attending the game, it will be awesome if you can post updates in our thread below.
Given the game week have had and all the frustrations from last 4 games, we are mentally ready for the very worst this afternoon. We don't care much for moral victories, yet here we are still hanging with our team and with each other. We have nothing to lose at this point. Here is to our coaches and players just letting it rip.
Fire away.
GO BRUINS.

Also don’t like the delay.
I thought that doesn't work for UCLA games
I am fairly sure it does not work for basketball games, so I didn’t think it’d be different for football games.
I will be watching on tape delay. I have the library, some shopping, and a quick wine/cheese party to go to to keep me distracted.
I've got it live in the Great NW on FoxNW
Usually I get hosed and have to watch Washington St live. Unfortunately, I have to Tivo the game and watch it later anywho…If anyone has the DirectTV sportspack, I think they would get the game on on Channel 687 (FoxSports NW). Go Bruins!
Are you sure?
My directv channel 687 FSNW says Mizzou Colorado. No live feed. Unless guide is wrong.
like i said before
I’m going to put my fingers in my ears, close my eyes, and go lalalalala, once the game starts, and just watch the delay.
Feeling Much Better About My Alma Mater Now
Iowa, Stanzi looked like dogsh** for 3 quarters then turned it on in 4th quarter and now lead 35-24.
Just hope our guys can show the same type of resiliency today.

XM and SIRIUS on-line: no broadcast
Why doesn’t XM Radio Online offer all of XM Satellite Radio’s channels?
XM Radio Online offers all of the XM Satellite Radio channels for which we have Internet performance rights. Certain third-party content may not be available over the Internet through XM Radio Online. Please refer to the XM Radio Online channel lineup for the channel list.
I wonder whether KLAC has the same agreement?
The Hawkeyes will suffer their first loss in two weeks in Columbus Ohio
Big Ten is overated. No team in that conference is really worthy of a BCS bowl.
You May Be Right But....
I just hope they come out focused for Northwestern next week. Looked like they had a rather serious hangover from last weekend’s miracle finish in East Lansing.
But yes, C-bus is one tough place to steal a win, no doubt about it. If they somehow do that THEN they should be home free as they have the goofy Gophs at home after that.

That's OK
I’m good.
Now I just hope our guys can learn to find the same type of resiliency. They gotta start somewhere.

So Iowa and UCLA....Have they ever met in football?
by 84 on Oct 31, 2009 1:01 PM PDT up reply actions
Oh Yeah....
I was at two of em’ in Iowa City; in ’74 and ’81 and both times there our guys were on the wrong end of a trip to the woodshed if you know what I mean.
Then, on January 1, 1986, our guys dough-popped Iowa 45-28 in the Rose Bowl in which Iowa came in heavily favored.
Also, one more game in ’77 when the Hawks came out to the Coliseum and Rick Bashore & Co. led the Bruins to a 34-17 win.

Oops...One More Game As Well
In ‘73 Iowa also was out at the Coliseum and that’s when Mark Harmon, James McAlister, et al lit up the Hawks 55-18.

Game thread
So is this going to be the live via radio game thread, or will this be the thread for those waiting for the TV delay?
Of course, I don’t have the game on either radio or TV here, so I’m not sure why I care, unless the delayed TV broadcast will get streamed.
greg in denver - UCLA guy for life
this thread
Is for live game. We will put up a ‘post game’ post after the game is over which will take note of the final score. But that will essentially serve as another thread which will be in progress along w the tape delay.

STAN HASIACK did not make the trip today with the team for ‘personal health reasons’…i hope this kid is ok…we need him on the O-line …anyone have more information?

Good luck to the Bruins
I look forward to viewing the thread after the game as I attempt to lock myself in a cave until the tv feed comes on…. Tivo/dvr has never worked for me either as friends/family/news outlets always spoil my attempt – but there’s a first time for everything….

There's no one in the world that wants to beat UCLA more than _______.
Passing
Ppl are blitzing us and sitting on the hots.. I wouldn’t mind using fades instead every now and then.
Fades
are very difficult passes to throw. While I like the idea, I think the QB shold build up some confidence and rhythm before he throws one.

I forgot the rules as well...
Running into the kicker is only a five yard penalty, so it wouldn’t have helped us.
just another 5 mins
Gonna use the Tennessee rule here, 20 minutes into the game should be enough to get a shot

We kicked off
I think they had a nice drive going with the Rogers brothers but out D stiffened up making them settle for a 48 yard FG.
From DB
DBSports
HOWARD: UCLA forces an Oregon St. punt. UCLA is 2-of-4 on 3rd down, OSU 1-of-4. Much different than last week.

They have confidence in their talent and can open it up
we will get there with our O.
Still wondering about our D.
We’ve given up over 200 yards
sjh
Besides that 2nd down throw, Prince is playing well.
With the exception of the fumbles.
If Prince was playing well we wouldn't have a goosegg

He's been under pressure on key downs
and there have been a few drops again. It’s not all on him.

the point is that it was in reach though
7-14 points is manageable, even for our offense. If they get a TD here it’s just about over.

not gonna happen. only 3 seconds left
There's no one in the world that wants to beat UCLA more than _______.
Disagree to a certian extent
When your offense can’t muster a drive it’s crazy that ucla isn’t down by 21. Seems like a decent job so far by D, the offense really needs to calm the F down and handle the snap.
by hongerelli on Oct 31, 2009 2:15 PM PDT via mobile up reply actions
you scared me. get that outta here lol

IT HAS BEEN WRITTEN
We’re down by BEBAN!
THATS SIGN ENOUGH!
There's no one in the world that wants to beat UCLA more than _______.
That was 16-6
with 4min 21 sec to go
Zimmerman the best onside kicker
We can still win
I’m sliding into the camp that wants to see more Brehaut, Knox, and others to see if they can spark us.
Coleman ran well.
Why not give knox some carries?
I really wonder what those guys did that dropped them so far down the depth charts.
sjh
i hope i am not expected to write a huge paragraph about...
how just plain awful our offense is looking…jeez guys open your eyes here…we need to open this offense up more and go full metal jacket on OSU…will CNC let his young offense do that?…2nd half coming up…
by bruincheerleader on Oct 31, 2009 2:19 PM PDT reply actions
Let's see a spark here
At this point the coaches should just coach. If a player is not getting playing time due to knowledge of the playbook then help him out for one play. Coach him & run him out there. I’m just not sure if its that NOTHING is working. Oregon is a hostile place, also.
I feel compelled to stay in the game but I'm sure glad it's going quickly
Deep in my heart, I think we can win if we just play a strong, mistake free half.
I would like to see brehaut and Knox.
We’ve only thrown 10 times, completed 6, for 6.8 per completion.
It’s the running game that is dead. 1.1 per carry.
But, in all fairness, young O line that has lost some players and depth.
sjh
Im not saying I want Craft
It just looks like they dont want to give Brehaut a real opportunity. They pulled him after one possession. With the way its going, Im just saying it wouldnt surprise me if they threw Craft in
It made sense to put Prince back in
There was only 1 minute left in the half and I’m sure the coaches felt that Prince was better prepared in the 2 minute drill. Hopefully Brehaut will start the 2nd half
Offense is pathetic
something like 5 fumbles – none lost but drive killers
Free Brandon Wood!
Doesn't feel like hammered
It may be my optimism, but I felt we were in the game until they went to 16 up
sjh
Hard to believe Brehaut could have made mistakes justifying banishment
was one of those run plays supposed to be a long pass for a TD?
sjh
It's like a bad nightmare
Over and over and over again
Paulson juggles another pass
I really like this guy but he really is not having a great year, or even a good one
sjh
Here's to hoping
