Does Tom Cable have a trOJan connection?
Yahoo Sports is reporting that the current head nurse at the Oakland asylum is about to be arrested for breaking an assistant coach's jaw. (One part of the story that I found interesting is that the Napa police apparently weren't interested until the assistant produced x-rays showing a fracture. I guess a punch to the jaw is not a crime until it produces a fracture.
Which raises the question. Did Coach Cable spend any time at just$c* before getting to Oakland? It really sounds like he has a lot of the characteristics that Cheatie Petie looks for in an assistant. And it also seems that Cable wishes he had somehow gotten to just$c*, since apparently the Raiders don't own the Napa PD.
This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of BruinsNation's (BN) editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of BN's editors.

Give Tom Cable a break.
He directed the last UCLA offense that was fun to watch. I wonder how much longer Cable will be in Oakland considering the Raiders are only getting worse.

Actually Tom Cable's offense was kind of a joke
and it had to be repeatedly bailed out by MJD and Drew Olson. We have written enough about that and will not rehash that debate.
Cable was never really a good OC. And he did a awful job of recruiting OL talent at UCLA, and we are still suffering from his recruiting mishaps (which cratered last year). Cable is a nightmarish reminder of what went wrong during Dorrell years.
As for Cable-SC connection, it’s silly point. Fox is reaching here and I don’t think this kind of stuff makes UCLA fans look good.

maybe you didn't catch the sarcasm in 71's post.
I sincerely doubt 71 is making a serious assertion that Tom Cable has any connection to the USC Footbal program. Considering SC’s history of thuggish indiscretions, however, I find it an appropriately humorous analogy given Cable’s recent actions.

Still, I'm not sure Fox is aware
that the guy spent two years with US, which kind of kills the joke

+1
Im sure Fox is aware that the guy spent time with us, as a seasoned contributor to BN im sure he knows that, but it does kill the joke that he was in our program for a couple seasons. (If im not mistaken he left to join the staff as OL coach at Nebraska after he got fired, can anyone else confirm that?)

Sheesh, felllas.
I thought Cable was a bad coach here, at UCLA, my alma mater, which I have talked about a lot on the BN.
I have always thought that the raiders were sort of a natural progression of the just$c* thuggery tradition.
So I put two and two together.
I do NOT equate Cable with UCLA. He was just passing through and we all knew it.
The most interesting part of the whole story to me was the fact that the Napa authorities didn’t do anything about the jaw-socking incident until the victim produce x-rays showing a fracture.
The fact that Cable came through the UCLA program doesn’t make him a Bruin. CHP spent more years here than Cable, but he was never a Bruin either.

And a belated apology
My post is all one-sentence paragraphs. It looks like that idiot who writes for the ’wrap. And for that I deeply apologize.

He left to be OL coach of the Falcons, for more money
But whether or not you consider Cable a bruin, the joke here if it’s on anyone is on us.

More like on Dorrell and his band of supporters
who were glorifying Tom Cable. Many of us were never on Cable bandwagon.

Yep
That year was all about 2LiveDrew using their experience and superior athleticism (MJD) to bail us out of horribly called games (by current head nurse Cable) in lively 2-minute drills.
Oh UCLA you sweet bitch, you've BRUINed me for anything else.

Tom Cable was a good OC at UCLA
Tom Cable was a good OC. Before Cable arrived, Drew Olson had 2,067 yds passing and 10 passing tds in 2003. With Tom Cable as OC, DO had 2,565 yds passing and 20 tds in 2004 and 3,198 yds and 34 tds in 2005. MJD, likewise, saw an increase in total yards from 1115 yds in 2003 to 1344 and 1410 yds in 2004 and 2005. How can the increase in offensive production not be attributed to Cable? After UCLA MJD has been with the Jaguars and DO was with the Falcons for part of a season, made the practice squad of a couple of teams and played for Amsterdam in NFL Europa.
This is no knock on Neuheisal or Chow since they have had to rebuild the entire offense.

Not quite
MDJ and Olson were recruited by Bob Toledo, for one.
Secondly, you need to give credit to the players who won the games with their athleticism, and not because of Cable’s playcalling. We were getting beat by 2+ TDs in many of the games (with a pretty listless offense) and only pulled them out because Cable just let those players make plays. He gets little credit, if any.
But hey, what do I know. I’m just the 800 lbs bruin in the room.

Are you really 800 lbs?
I’m a little heavy myself. Counting calories to get down to 200 lbs.
More seriously, the point I was making was that with the same players from 2003, Tom Cable made the offense more productive in 2004 and 2005. I believe Tom Cable played a big role in putting the offense together and developing players. They didn’t get better on their own and I don’t think their improvement was due to Karl Dorrell.
As for athleticism, MJD is supremely talented which has been validated by his success in the pros. However, I don’t think DO was that talented. He did work hard and had a great senior year. I hold him in higher esteem than some more talented Bruin quarterbacks.

We have had this argument enough times on BN
Tom Cable doesn’t get much credit here for good reasons. His offense was Dorrellian and kept getting bailed out by MJD and Drew Olson. His OL recruiting was terrible. He was a joke and is getting exposed with the Raiders. He was also a joke as a head coach at Idaho.
