I'm procrastinating again so I'm going to bleed more Blue and Gold
via www.sportsposterwarehouse.com
I just posted on the "Who is your favorite all-time Bruin" thread and I am feeling hyper fanatical about our Bruins at the moment. I just brought back all my memories as a seven year old kid at my first game in the Rose Bowl (1996 SUC game) and oh what a game it was. I still have the t-shirt I wore to that game. As I grew out of it, I refused to let my mom throw it out. It got me thinking about all the other UCLA stuff I have in my room at home and how those things (along with my signed Sandy Koufax baseball that no one can touch) are among my most prized possesions. Most notable is the framed UCLA football jersey with my last name and the number 1 on it that hangs above my bed. Next is the picture of me with the entire team in the locker room after we won the 2006 Pac-10 tourney (yes I understand many would kill to be me). I also have a signed basketball from Coach Howland (though its signed to my dad who has the same name is me, my dad gave it to me for my collection) and I keep my 1995 National Champions hat in full view on top of my sports stand (where my other UCLA hats and basketballs reside). To top it of my room is painted....yah you guessed it powder blue. What Bruin memorabilia does the rest of Bruins Nation hold dear?
This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of BruinsNation's (BN) editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of BN's editors.

My class ring.
My first reaction was to think I have very little actual memorabilia to brag about, but come to think of it; I do have some of my very own little treasures.
1) Number 9 football jersey by Champion. Does not match any official game used jersey, it reads “UCLA” on the back. You can see it on my avatar if you care to look. I bought this jersey after a finals I took (and felt very confident about) during my first quarter on campus, as a way to reward myself for a great finish. (I made dean’s list in my first term)
2) UCLA hoody with Bruins on the front pocket. It’s old and way past the time it should be thrown out, but it has that thick fabric that I associate with my time in track and field. I got this during my time at UCLA as well and I will never get rid of it.
3) “They call me coach” and laminated “pyramid of success” card; both signed by Coach John Wooden. These were given to me by my girlfriend at the time. I understand she stood in line at Ackerman for a very long time to meet Coach and have him sign these things. Cherished.
Every thing else has been claimed by time and circumstance. Even my diploma. But it’s the memories and emotional bonds that matter. My most prized UCLA memorabilia are my memories.
A coach is someone who can give correction without causing resentment. John Wooden

My rowing gear
UCLA Rowing t-shirt, and my racing unisuit…plus the hat I bought my first week of college…it’s still used, though I don’t even know what shade of blue I can call it now! Oh, and there’s that diploma thing :)
But hey, what do I know. I’m just the 800 lbs bruin in the room.

I have a light blue UCLA visor...
… which the insides are turning brown. I bought it brand new at the start of the 2001 season. Wore it to every home game. We went 6-0… and then I washed the thing. We lost the next 4. I never washed my visor since.
Go Bruins!

Like you, I remember my first game as a kid
It was a home loss to Penn St in 1968. I was 10 and remember my friend and I kept dumping our peanut shells in the crown of the hat the man in front of us was wearing—he never noticed.
As for gear, I’ve got an NCAA tourney basketball, Walton-era warmups, fb jersey and helmet, and a variety of jackets.

My first game was UCLA vs. Air Force in 1960 in the rain at the Crapaseum
Billy Kilmer made an 80 yard run.
Years later, long after he retired from pro football, I happened to sit across the aisle from him on an airplane and told him about that memory. His response was memorable, but not actually repeatable. I suspect he didn’t think that anyone remembered that run.

Wooden Poster
I have one of the posters they gave out at the Michigan State game in ’03 when they were naming the Nell and John Wooden court. The unis we wore that day were awesome and all of the greats from the past who were there to honor Coach was a great sight. A family friend of mine knows Coach from his days as a JC basketball coach and got the poster signed. Wooden agreed to sign it only after hearing I graduated. It hangs in my living room and is my most prized possession.

This is not an exhaustive list:
1) 1994 UCLA Rosebowl Beer Mug
2) 1995 UCLA Basketball Championship Beer Glass
3) UCLA Bruins Coffee Mug
4) UCLA hoody (bought it in 04)
5) UCLA sweatshirt (bought during Halloween night sale in my freshman year (91). I have wore that sweatshirt for every finals week during college, law school, and after school whenever I have had huge projects to work on).
6) U$C* Game T-Shirts (I have saved the one from 1991 (my freshman year) when we broke a 4 game winless streak)
7) UCLA basketball tournament t-shirt featuring Shawn Tarver and Natalie Williams (the bball/volleyball All American) from 91
8) UCLA true blue basketball/football t-shirts
9) UCLA long sleeve basketball shirt
10) UCLA coaches’ polo shirts
11) UCLA socks (warm ones when I have to stay up during winter nights for hoops games)
12) UCLA banner
13) UCLA license plate
14) Assortments of blue/gold ties for any Fall Fridays when I can’t dress casually
15) Picture with Coach Ben Howland
16) UCLA key chain that plays our fight song
17) whole bunch of UCLA baseball caps
I think I have whole bunch of little stuff in my UCLA box. In addition to my diploma though I will end with this:
Met Mrs. N during my first week of my freshman year in Westwood.
Nice topic Princeton.
GO BRUINS.
PS: Still on the look out for CRN’s navy blue UCLA vest.

Well if we are talking other UCLA clothing and assorted stuff
I am staring straight at a lithograph from the early 1980’s at the Rose Bowl with our fans spelling out UCLA in the awesome cursive font on our football helmet. I had to have one awesome UCLA thing in my dorm room. I can’t even count the UCLA clothing I own, including the zipup hoodie I regularly wear around campus. You’d be suprised how many people wear other college’s sweaters on this campus but they tend to be Big 10 and SEC schools. Well not me. The only Pac-10 school sweaters I see around are $UC and I immediately judge those people. And yes, I talk shit.
P.S. I want that vest too. I have a beige vest with blue UCLA lettering on it but its not as cool.

Well, PBruin
if you apply yourself, you still have a chance to attend the greatest University in the world as a graduate student. So I suggest you stop procrastinating and hit those books.

That would be the goal
The best urban planning school in the country, in my opinion (top 5 according to the so called experts) is also the home of my Bruins.

Sort of OT
What ever happened to the card stunts. We Bruins were always the best at them; especially with the spell out. At one game when I was in school, I saw U$C attempt card stunts, simply aweful. For night games we’d use flashlights with a card with different colors of plastic.

They don't do them every game
but they have done them the last two games.

This is great
In the 15 or so Bruin fball games I went to between 1999-2007 (I missed last season because I’ve been at school and we didn’t have a home thanksgiving weekend game last year but this year I am stoked that the SUC game coincides) I didn’t see a single card stunt. I am glad they are making a comeback.
