Tyler Lamb Sends It In
Jon Gold has a write up on Lamb sending it (his LOI) in without a lot of fanfare:
Lamb did not need any hysterics for his signing, not after waiting so long to become a Bruin.
"All that stuff is nice, but I don't think it's necessary," said Lamb, who signed at his high school. "I've worked so hard to get here from where I was, I've been waiting for this day. Mater Dei has a really big tradition and I wouldn't have wanted to sign anywhere but there."If the Bruins can somehow land Barnes, they'll almost certainly end up with the nation's top recruiting class, as they continue to pursue point guard Ray McCallum out of Detroit Country Day and Trey Zeigler out of Mt. Pleasant, Mich.
"We have the potential to make a good run for the national championship with Josh Smith," Lamb said. "I think he's one of the best players in the country, with how big he is and how he can move. If we get one or two more guys, I think we can make a good run as we get older and gel."
Sounds like the kid has a little AA in him.
In terms of Harrison Barnes, despite Gold's breathless speculation here is a suggestion for everyone else here: don't hold your breath. :-) It's not happening. Of course I will be jumping up and down if he decides to come here but I just don't see Barnes coming to Westwood. As I pointed out other day he sounds like a great kid though and I really wish him luck wherever he ends up.
Lastly JS2, hasn't sent in his LOI yet and he might be waiting to do a signing ceremony at Kentwood High in Washington. I have no problem with the kid taking his time and enjoying the process just a bit.
Anyway, here is an official welcome to TL.
GO BRUINS.

Some Vegas Oddsmaker in recruiting put us at a 45-1 shot for Barnes yesterday
Duke UNC and Kansas were all significantly higher (better) odds. Definately a longshot.
I wouldn't mind putting $10 on Howland at those odds.

Apparently he has played for Nike teams
Duke/UNC are both Nike schools

I like...
…that he does his announcement without all the hoopla. It doesn’t bother me when guys do make a big deal about it because it’s a huge day for them, but let’s just say that I like Tyler’s style. Welcome to Westood!
So, an actual LOI from a two-way, 6-4 SG...
… and a should-sign- LOI-this-week-but-still-waiting-anxiously from a 6-10 center… and a will-he-or-won’t-he-cap-lotto for the nation’s top SF out of high school.
I’ll be nervous until we get the actuals on CBH’s desk, but I am RELIEVED we have another guard coming in.

It's UNC
It looked like a Duke/UNC battle the whole way and that’s how it turned out. I wish Barnes all the best at UNC. Seems like a great kid.

Barnes
will be making his decision here in about 15 minutes on ESPNU. Sounds like it’s pretty much either UNC or Duke. Here’s hoping for the long shot.
We need
McCallum more than Barnes. We have an urgent need for PGs. Not to look ahead, but seems like there aren’t that many top 25 players even interested at UCLA for the class 2011.
