DN: Rick Neuheisel Has Been "Sleeping" With Recruit's Mom

Made you click. Didn't I? :-)

I wish I could take credit for that title but I can't. It goes to a poster with the username "donkeystar" on BruinReportOnline, who flagged a great story on Jerry Neuheisel, the quarterback for Loyola High School. Jerry of course has obvious connections to UCLA:

Jerry said his dad hasn't started recruiting him yet.

Rick begs to differ.

"Absolutely," he said. "Heck, I've even resorted to sleeping with his mom."

As long as Rick is at UCLA, Westwood will be an easy sell for Jerry.

The story is a great read which reveals a lot about what Jerry and his younger brothers had to endure when their Dad was going through tough times in his coaching career:

"He could hear the catcalls and different things people were saying about me because I was an infamous head coach," Rick said. "We had some good one-on-ones on how to deal with it. `Let it go. It has nothing to do with you. I want you to be proud of your name."'

Then Rick told them if they had a problem that couldn't be solved, he would deal with it. Jerry was in fifth grade when his dad was fired.

In terms of his ability to play football, it sounds like Jerry is doing ok as the QB for Loyola:

If you want to talk about the Cubs, who are 4-6 after Friday night's 41-37 victory against Crespi, in which Neuheisel threw a 46-yard touchdown pass with 31 seconds left, he's happy to do it. Loyola started 1-2 and coach Jeff Kearin resigned for personal reasons, with Adam Guerra taking over.

Guerra said Jerry has improved throughout the season, and pointed to a four-game span in which he threw seven touchdowns and just one interception. Jerry completed 18of31 Friday night for 289 yards and three touchdowns.

And has the same persona as his Dad:

Jerry has the same relentless optimism. Rick was always coaching and unable to attend his son's Pop Warner games, so he gave him a nickname - PD, which stands for "passion and desire." Jerry added NF on his own, which stands for "no fear." Someday, he said he might get a "PDNF" tattoo.

His favorite moniker is "Sunshine," a nickname given to him after the quarterback in "Remember the Titans." The quarterback was a good-looking guy with surfer-boy hair and a cool, laidback attitude to match. If the Cubs didn't make all players get buzz cuts at the start of each season, Jerry would have his hair sticking out the back of his helmet.

You need to read the whole piece by Jill Painter here, which is a fantastic read.

Shouldn't leave much doubt about how Jerry bleeds blue and gold. However, I am personally not sure whether it would be a good idea for him to come to UCLA. I have seen sons who play for high profile Dads in college programs go through difficult situation (See Hawkins situation with Colorado football and the Smiths with Kentucky hoops). Like I said, for now I am just not sure. Others might have different thoughts on the topic.

GO BRUINS.

Good One, N.

(Still, it’s wonderful to hear that a high-profile college coach is sleeping with his wife, the mother of his children, isn’t it?) ;-)

Jerry sounds like a great kid, with a solid sense of loyalty and wisdom somewhat beyond his years. However, I, too, am ambivalent about the possibility of him playing on his father’s team. I just think the pressure of the multiple “roles” could be too much of an extra challenge for both father and son. As much as we all love our Bruins, family really should come fist, always, IMHO, and there are circumstances where those two important interests could have divergent goals. It really might be too much to ask of them.

Yeah I get the same feeling too

Neuehisel’s are pretty smart. I think they will make a very calculated decision and Jerry should have some good options.

Ah

Good laugh this morning in freezing Spokane. It’s good to see that we can recruit our own blood literally

There's no one in the world that wants to beat UCLA more than _______.

It's about time

that Jeff Kearin resigned. He threw our glorious program into the gutter after the one and only Steve Grady retired. I’m glad to see that CRN’s son is a proud LOYOLA CUB and hopefully future Bruin (following in the footsteps of Danny Farmer and Matt Ware, both of Loyola)
