It was unfortunate to not get the fantasy points, but MJD makes a smart play.

I guess I'm just in a contrarian mood today.

But I’m not convinced that play was the right one to make. (It was ordered by Jack Del Rio btw, so I’m second-guessing a Trojan, not MJD). Yeah, it all worked out in the end, but I think Tony Romo could share a story about how chipshot field goals aren’t without their pitfalls.

I didn't like the move

I’m a Jaguars fan so I spent the final minute yelling at the TV, but thankfully it worked. When someone gives you six points, you take six points IMO.

I'm with you

If you are nursing a lead, that is the right move to make. If you are down, you take the sure points IMO

I liked the move...

The Jets’ had only two possibilities for winning that game: him scoring, giving them time to try and score, or hoping for a botched field goal (extra point). Whether it was a good move can be argued until the cows come home, and I see both sides…one thing I’m sure about, there isn’t an SC alum in the NFL who could or would have made that kind of split second decision (even with the call coming from JDR). Do you really think Reggie Kardashian Bu$h would have given up a TD for the team? How bout Lyndale White? Keyshawn? Mike Williams (does he or did ever play)? Leinheart Teenagers? Ray Ray Malooga? Any others?

I love the move

NFL kickers make 20-yard field goals (basically extra points) an overwhelming high percentage of the time.

The chances of missing a kick with no time left are less than letting the Jets march down the field and scoring.

Thumbs up on the call

You figure a kicker’s going to miss from extra point distance maybe once in 40 tries. That’s about a 2% rate of failure. If you score the TD and don’t get the 2 point conversion (or even if you do), a decent QB with 2 minutes at his disposal has about a 25-30% chance of marching the team down the field for a TD to win or tie. And don’t forget Sanchez had just marched his team right down the field for the go ahead score on the last drive.

Or look at it this way, if you’re a Jets fan watching the game, what would you rather have the Jags do? I’m guessing you’d want the Jags to score the TD quick so you can “keep hope alive.”

In any case, MJD is a never ending source of pride. My favorite FB Bruin of the 2000’s and by far my favorite NFL’er.
