Recruiting On Fire: Per BRO CRN Gets Commitment From 4 Star LB Out Of VA

Last week UCLA picked up 4 star RB Jordan Jamess out of Corona. After a blowout win over the weekend John Young, the talented TE from Loyola High School let the cat out of the bag about his silent commitment to become a Bruin. Now it looks like the UCLA coaching staff is setting up this game week with a huge get - a 4 star LB - out of Virginia. Tracy Pierson from BRO broke the news:

It didn't take long for Aramide Olaniyan, the 6-2, 200-pounder from Woodberry Forrest (Virg.) High, the #9-ranked outside linebacker in the country, to verbally commit to UCLA after his official visit a week and a half ago

Rest of the story is behind BRO's subscription firewall. If you want to take a get an idea of what this kid can do here are some highlights:

FWIW Olaniyan (the former Duke commit) was floored by his visit to UCLA:

He made an early commitment to Duke, but backed off last September saying he wanted to open up his options to be sure of his decision. He has taken several unofficial visits in the last few months and has seen Michigan, North Carolina and Duke several times.

"The visit to UCLA was the best visit I've taken so far," Olaniyan said. "My mom came with me and I want to come back with my dad to show him what UCLA is all about. My parents are very influential in my decision and my mom really loved it there.

"I just loved everything about the school. Los Angeles is a beautiful city and UCLA has a great campus. I really enjoyed speaking with the players and coaches and it was nice to be in the locker room after the game and see how excited everyone was after the win.

"My parents are all about academics and UCLA has a lot to offer there. I want to go to law school and that's where coach (Rick) Neuheisel has his background, so it was cool to have that connection with him."

We will update this post as more info come out. Aramdie becomes the 15th commit in what is methodically shaping up to be another solid class for Rick Neuheisel. If the UCLA can take care of business on Saturday, Bruins' momentum will only get hotter on the recruiting trail.

GO BRUINS.

UPDATE (N): WWL now has the news as they indicate schools such as Stanford, Notre Dame, Auburn, Clemson, Tennessee, Florida State and Boston College were after Olaniyan. GO BRUINS.

I think he should switch to running back

He gets through some pretty small holes in the offensive line faster than anything I’ve ever seen.

But seriously folks, he might be a bit undersized at the moment, but he is so fast off the ball that it’s hard to believe. Watch the video and you’ll see what I mean.

lol

not ANOTHER running back!

Any idea how secure this commitment is?

I’m always nervous about the distant guys.

Solid

but you never know with recruits. I don’t consider any of our verbals to be Bruins until we get the signed LOI’s. See Tony Jefferson and his visits right now. See Durrell Price and how he became a Bruin after his fax to Ohio St. didn’t go through.

Well

He’s not visiting anywhere else which is really good news.

Apparently Olaniyan and his mom bonded well with DT George Uko (Chino Don Lugo HS) and DE Owamagbe Odighizuwa (Portland Douglas HS, Oregon) and their parents. I believe all are of Nigerian descent. Both Uko and Odighizuwa are 5-star recruits per Rivals. Obviously, DT is a huge need position and Uko would be the jewel of this recruiting class but UCLA has major competition for him.

I love how big on academics Olaniyane is.

Love his Quicks

Damn, numbers wise, we have a ton of LB’s. This is assuming Koster and Maka enroll and we’re still after Shirley and Pullard. Numbers wise, we’re maxed out now. Going to be interesting to see what happens during the offseason and whom we close out the class with. Really interested to see who we’re going to fill out the DT class with as there is immediate PT available and an urgent need for bodies.

If we get Barr and/or Shirely, along with Young, would love to see if they can be viable options as speed rushers at the DE position.

Still want Bullough gone but he finally decided to use Akeem as a rusher. Akeem has the speed/size along with familiarity (played the position in HS) to get to the QB.

We needed LBs something fierce

but you’re right that we also need DTs. I have to think the coaching staff is secretly praying that Price stays another year. ;)

I think

the coaching staff is right now scouring for DTs (don’t think they are counting on BP coming back … if he does it will be a pleasant surprise).

well

Price did say he wanted to stay his senior year and graduate.

by CheekyBruin on Nov 16, 2009 4:57 PM PST reply actions

We all pray he does

He seems like a great kid who really values having an education. Isn’t he the first in his family to go to college? I think that is a big reason why he wants to actually graduate. We all know he is capable of performing at the next level after this year. If he stays I will be ecstatic.

The Sam Bradford effect

I was really happy to see such a high profile guy stay for his final year of school, and hoped that many would follow his example. Unfortunately for him, his year has been a disaster, and will likely cost him many millions of dollars. I am sure that college athletes have made that same realization, and now Bradford will be seen as an example of what happens if you do pass up the opportunity to get paid.

As much as we need guys like BP (and KL, LRMAM, RW, etc…) to stay with us to give us the best chance of success, how do you convince a guy that staying another year in college, even when it’s UCLA, is in his best interest?

Don't forget

The rookie salary scale is likely to reduce dramatically after next season in the NFL. All these college juniors know this.
