Cal. St.-Fullerton Titans at UCLA Bruins, Nov 16, 2009 8:59 PM PST
Well here we go. The opening night is officiall here.
In about an hour, JA, ML, RN and rest of the Ben Ball warriors officially lift off tonight to tip off the 2009-10 Ben Ball season. Bruins are taking on Cal State Fullerton on WWL. Hopefully we will also see JA breaking down the Titan defense by attacking the rim. For some quick notes on today's game here is our morning game day roundup.
The tipp off is scheduled for 9:00 pm PST. You can track the game online via the official site. For those who are watching the game tonight (or staying up LATE) make sure to let us know how our defense looks after another week of practice.
As always if you are watching the game share your instant thoughts/commentary here in our game thread. Fire away.
GO BRUINS.

I'm making it!
In the car right now!
P.S.- N, mentioning a fledgling freshman RN with ML and JA? I can’t tell which newcomer has you most fired up.

Slngbox still needs Internet right?
Only have 3g with iPhone and apple has blocked it’s use as a modem.

Believe so
I suppose that AT&T’s 3G network is getting so taxed in some areas, that allowing streaming via 3G data would really screw up the network.
One of the good points of my old Palm phone/pda
Can use all the good stuff via 3g data, and even use it as a modem with minimal work.
Anybody know what the starting lineup is projected to be?
I know we’ll find out soon enough, but I’m curious who starts at the 2 and 3 spots.

ready to stay up late over in dc

Apparently Pauley is pretty empty
that sucks

Looking forward to seeing how much #0, Commissioner Gordon, improved over the summer.
33 Wins. Yeah, I said it.
Totally off topic, but....
I was cruising yahoo – and to those of us who attended ucla in the 90’s and grew up in the 80’s – “Remote Control” host Ken Ober died….. just kind of sucks as it reminded me a lot of that time….
At least he doesn't call him DG
I can’t keep all the abbreviations straight.

Pretty sloppy start so far
and what’s up with empty Pauley?
offense looks like its going to be more of a problem than d this year
why not set pic for roll
so excited to get this here in Dallas
Just got back form the SMU game a bit ago actually, and they played A&M fairly close, we were excited for a while.
Its funny because the last time I saw A&M was down in Anaheim, they certainly arent as good as they were that year though. Hopefully we have a better result than the mustangs did tonight, and that this game isnt as close as the one in Anaheim was.
go Bruins : )
William Doolittle at your service, a.k.a. will do.
For those of you as unlucky as me to be at work right now

nice look ft by rn
what’s up with the mohawks?
Okay ND
Made up for it with that save in my book.
Oh UCLA you sweet bitch, you've BRUINed me for anything else.
Drago slow in transition
Loses the ball and doesn’t get back on D. It’s going to be a long season.
ND and RN
Good huddle play

Medium shots not dropping
and we’re getting boxed out of the paint.
NDs defense is horrible
he gets beat off the dribble on every single play

MR for 3
Roll is gonna be money for us.
God he better stay healthy!
greg in denver - UCLA guy for life
he has never been a good defensive player
but he looks absolutely terrible. Inexcusable for a 4th year player.

ND just doesn't look like he cares on D
Does he expect to get drafted playing like that?
by Kerckhoff405 on Nov 16, 2009 9:25 PM PST up reply actions
MR's passing
has always been impressive. has excellent ability to feed. gonna him a lot this year
I hope Coach does not use a short bench
Frankly, for the long-term growth of the program, we need to get them a lot of playing time this year.
Dragovic is horrible
No value when he can’t score.
Sloppy
play by both teams which is expected for a season opener. We are getting nothing inside. All jumpers and like 3 airballs by us.
Still 13-11 CSF
This game sucks
Easily the sloppiest game I’ve ever seen. What is this, junior high?!
Come on guys: tighten it up.
what does CBH see in ND?
He doesn’t play hard…

The rest of the team needs to step up.
ML fighting under the basket getting his own rebounds
finally rewarded with a tough off balance put back, good intensity there

ND needs some bench time
He’s useless to us right now

makes a great cut and gets the “and 1” on a nice head fake layup
William Doolittle at your service, a.k.a. will do.
Agreed. but that might mean he enters the draft unfortunately. He's listed on a few draft sites.
33 Wins. Yeah, I said it.
Doubt it
I think he’s here for his junior year before he jumps.
Jrue is a perfect example of why you stay an extra year. I wonder how the bench in Philadelphia is feeling?
Not sure. All it takes is a great tournament performance and the "league" takes notice.
33 Wins. Yeah, I said it.
Our best lineup
will be JA, ML, MR, JK and DG. Keefe is playing hard and you can see he knows what Howland wants in his play.
Drago is killing us
with his lack of D and the G’s are getting into the lane at will right now. Keefe plays very effective Team D.
Am i being an oldman

nitpick side of me says the pass was late and should have been sooner
but a great finsh by ml for the 3 pt play opp

Is ND driving anyone else crazy?
ML still looks a little raw but effort is awesome and talent is there. But, what’s ND doing throwing up 3’s in transition – run the offense!
ND definitely should NOT be a starter
lazy defense, reckless shooting… give it to RN, that kid seems to work hard.
ML definitely needs to stay aggressive
He seems to put the defense on their heels when he drives to the basket.
Settle Down
As a high school coach, I can tell you we’ve got some serious nerves going today. We just need to settle down and play UCLA basketball.

Keefe misse front end of 1&1
DG with offensive board and putback. 21-17 UCLA. But gives up a dunk. 21-19 UCLA
I thought we had the better athletes
why are we getting schooled with Globetrotter moves?
by UCLABruins4Ever on Nov 16, 2009 9:39 PM PST reply actions
who said that?
we have slower big men they are taking advantage of, but that’s why we we are outrebounding them like crazy.

well I think they are a much quicker team than us
our bigs are SLOW

by silverlakebruin on Nov 16, 2009 9:43 PM PST up reply actions
You've got to hand it to CSF
They are having fun out there.
CSF - UCLA stats
Points 21 21
Field Goals 9-21 (42.9%) 9-29 (31.0%)
Free Throws 2-3 (66.7%) 3-8 (37.5%)
3-pointers 1-4 (25.0%) 0-4 (0.0%)
Personal Fouls 8 5
Anderson needs to take those shots
He’s wide open and he keeps hesitating. Result = TO.
I know we should be patient...
but we’re looking pretty damn bad out there. Seriously, we’re playing CSUF. It’s not supposed to be this bad! 3rd in the Pac-10, may be a stretch at this rate.
It takes time
Did you see UK playing Miami (OH) earlier tonight. I think they were down by 16.
It's frustrating but
Look at the effort (other than ND)- and they just installed double-teams this week. It’s raw but the effort and buy-in is there – we’ll be ok by the pac-10 opener.
Stop with the Holiday hate
the kid didn’t do anything wrong
by UCLABruins4Ever on Nov 16, 2009 9:44 PM PST up reply actions
actually, it would have been helpful if he would have declared earlier
so we could have replaced him, but it was his right, it just wasn’t helpful to the program.

Wish he
had stayed. He’s not playing much in Philly. I guess Mil made the right pick with Jennings at #10 instead of JH.
Boy
I am glad to see all the "loyal fans’ who were complaining about having to market value for their great lower level seats show up for the game..
"when you've seen how big the world is, how can you make due with this?"

or that can create their own shot easily

Plenty of time left in this one. Gotta make Free Throws guys. Inexcusable.

ML needs to take control
He’s shown his ability but needs to take more leadership.
well if we don't play better we deserve to lose
the airballs, bad free throw shooting, unforced turnovers, poor defense, are all inexcusable.

If he's watching the game, he might not want to. (joke)
Then again he’ll be enticed of being a starter from the get go.
33 Wins. Yeah, I said it.

Derrick Rose
Now that he’s smarter with his one year at Memphis! LOL!
Agree
JA makes me extremely nervous. Forget the 0-4 from the field. He is not the extension of the HC that we’ve been used to recently. I guess we’ve been spoiled. Either way, if he doesn’t get his act together and leads this team, we are going to lose this game.
ML is playing hard but he needs to take the ball to the rim and get fouled or create for his teammates. Team needs to hit their FT’s too. Keefe and Roll are playing like the SR’s that they are. Drago is blah right now. CBH benched him for the 1st half. Reeves brings some nice energy.
We own the offensive glass
and putbacks have been our best offense so far.
Same reason Pete Carroll keeps cheating
