This link doesn't have the news, but scout.com shows him as a UCLA commit. He is a former Minnesota commit who has blasted a 67-yard FG, so he obviousloy has a huge leg. Since Forbath is a junior this is a great pickup. Hopefully he will continue the tradition of great UCLA kickers.

Sweet

Hopefully his career is filled with about 20 yard kicks (extra points!) as our offense solidifies. I think our coaches have done a great job (even Dorrell, he at least did one thing right to keep the cupboard stocked) ensuring that we have a nice overlap of fantastic kickers. Medlock graduates and Forbath is right behind him after redshirting. Forbath will graduate and Kip Smith would be coming off of his redshirt year. This gives them a chance to learn more control as well as boost the distance and angle of their kicks. Then they get four years to be a stud. Good stuff!

Another solid pickup

Rated the #2 kicker on WWL and Chris Sailer likes him…good enough for me. Go Bruins!

I love that we always recruit good kickers

They might not be considered real football players, but they decide so many close games.

How many games have Forbath and Medlock keep us in or help us win?

Here's a video of

the 67-yard FG.

It’s a free-kick off a tee, just like a kick-off, but it’s still impressive, especially for a high schooler.

When you said

it was off a tee, I figured it was an exhibition. But, as the video shows, there was an opposing team, and, I gather, the kick counted for 3 points as the announcers called it a field goal.

What kind of situation is this? Why does he get to kick off a tee? Why does the defense line up like they do for a kickoff? Why wouldn’t the defense try to defend or block the kick?

I have never heard of it until this happened last season in the NFL

that’s the only reason I know the rule, but a free kick field goal is after a fair catch a team can option to have a free kick field goal. You don’t see it much as normally after a fair catch you are out of field goal range. The NFL one last season was almost 70 yards with time running out in the first half and he missed it bad. I guess its like the drop kick you don’t see it too much.
