Rebuilding tradition starts right here!
Many have noted the progress our coaching staff has made with our program in recent weeks, and many have noted that we have seen a significant uptick in recruiting interest. We pat ourselves on the back for our part in ridding this program of recent disasters in coaching, but we have yet to take real responsibility for rebuilding the tradition of this program. To bring in the big recruits, we need a student body that understands that GLORY is not a perk of attending UCLA, but, rather, your birthright as a Bruin. A right that must be demanded and respected by all who come before us! WE are BRUINS!!
We hold an important role in educating our current students! I propose today, with the bon__ soon to spew confetti like a 5 year-old's birthday extravaganza, that we commit, as alumni, to rebuilding the once great pride within our student body. Our alumni have been too weak for too long!! This is a call to all who read and post on this site!
WE NEED OUR HISTORY ON DISPLAY AT NEXT YEAR'S RALLY!!! Let's see if we can't get some former greats out there to speak and rally the students. Let's get stories and video of bruin athletic glory up on that stage!! This rally is about more than just football!! This is about Good v. Evil, and it's about time we bring in some bigger guns.
As alumni, we are honored to be a part of the greatest athletic tradition in NCAA history. Let's bring that to life at next years bonFIRE!! To make it happen, we must start today.
This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of BruinsNation's (BN) editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of BN's editors.

Good post dust
So are there alums here who live near the campus and can take the lead on something like this for next year?
Absolutely
I’m only a couple years out, but I’d certainly be happy to do my part. I spent somewhere in the neighborhood of 600hrs last year helping student groups raise close to $20k, and I’ll continue to help with private donations and hundreds of hours this year. Obviously, I have some personal passions on campus that I will continue to support, but I would love to be a part of anything that would educate young bruins with the pride my family instilled in me.
Team of 1 and growing?

“A right that must be demanded and respected by all who come before us! "
That sentence makes no sense. It’s a priviledge to be a Bruin & we are not entitled to anything. We should be rightfully proud of past, current, & future Bruins and their accomplishments but nothing is free. Nothing is a “birthright”. We all got into UCLA because our hard work & dedication to excellence. To suggest that we’re automatically entitled to “GLORY” smacks of elitism.
I firmly believe that UCLA is the greatest, but will only continue to be so as long as (as you say) we have a dedicated student & alumni body but remain grounded. What happened yesterday was awesome, but it’s today and tomorrow that matter. And all that matters this week is beating U$C.
I consider accepting admission
to UCLA similar to being reborn. It is a new life and a path that will lead you into the greatest joy imaginable… VICTORY! Once you’ve been reborn a Bruin, you own a piece of every great moment produced by this GLORIOUS institution! A piece of every brilliant innovation and extraordinary display of human excellence….
Continued glory is what must be demanded! We have a right to demand greatness of those who approach our institution. We have a right to demand the respect of all those who step foot on Janss Steps. It is the expectation of greatness that has continued to drive basketball, volleyball, waterpolo, gymnastics, track, and tennis. The sense of history still to be made drives the spirit of true Bruins. There is no shame in demanding GLORY. To merely hope for it is to accept failure.
To quote Rousseau, “Great men never make bad use of their superiority. They see it and feel it and are not less modest.”
