Just to make everyone feel better thought I put up this video. As for UCLA students who we have been very hard on today, use this thread to discuss how you can respond in force and make the best out of the embarrassment from this week. Let's hear the ideas you might have either here in this thread or fire them up in FanPost.

Oh and there is a reason I am throwing up this video. Stay tuned. GO BRUINS.

There's no one in the world that wants to beat UCLA more than _______.

I put this in the other post but let's get this started

Our school’s organization of institutions is kind of like political organization, in that you need to be involved in particular institutions in order to get specific things across.

For example, when it comes to school spirit, what organizations influence those? SAA, The Den, and Yell Crew. Now we can’t just tell everyone to get involved in those organizations, it’s just statistically impossible. What we CAN do however is let those organizations know that more needs to be done in order to unearth the student spirit that I honestly feel is there, but isn’t being given the appropriate encouragement for it to foster. And I don’t think we can just expect our students to be naturally fired up. Look at other schools, their mascots, yell crew, everything is way more enigmatic and fired up than ours. It’s something I’ve noticed the last four years at UCLA, and that’s what needs to change. Step by step, and the students will come out.

As BNers, I think the most appropriate thing would be to write some sort of mass letter to those organizations and let them know that more needs to be done as far as encouraging student participation, and I think there are enough followers of this blog for that type of a message to get across to the Den, SAA, etc. Similar to lobbying your Congressmen (which students, you should ALSO DO with regard to fee hikes). Those are the institutions which makes things happen for the students. And while they do a great job of planning events, their grassroots organization of getting students fired up isn’t cutting it.

Is this what we've come to?

How tough is it to camp out at the statue? Did you not see the picture in the other thread of about dozen ‘SC students dutifully camping out by their statue? What needs to be organized with that? Who needs to grant permission with that? This isn’t rocket science, it’s called school spirit and showing the minimal amount of school spirit.

Rotten is so Right!

Look at the picture of the “protectors” of Tommy Trojan.

Look like the biggest and toughest guys in the world? No way.

A bunch of people with school spirit.

Spirit is inherent not organized.

Thanks Nestor, that did make me feel better...

But what’s the tie in? A young blond haired assistant coach on the sidelines? An underdog bruin team overcoming the odds?

At fault?

I get that as students it’s all our jobs to protect the bear. However, USAC organizes groups to protect the bear. Last night was Rally Comm’s night and reading the facebook status’ of some of the people in Rally Comm apparently they were out there but didn’t think they needed to stay all night.

You're falling into a trap.

I don’t really blame you, my generation (X) had a lot of listless people who could not be bothered to initiate. I don’t really blame you, from pre-school you’ve been told to obey and not to make waves.

However, you’ve got to put that behind you. You’re an adult now in a short time you’ll be living on your own. You’ve got to find out what’s important to you and be passionate about it. Don’t wait for the Nanny State to tell you what to do and when to do it!

by Seanny Rotten on Nov 25, 2009 12:57 PM PST up reply actions

Uhhh

I don’t need a lecture on taking initiative. What i am saying is that the “Bruin Security Force” is organized by USAC. Last night was Rally Comm’s night and they fucked up. I found out this morning that they only planned on being there from 9-12.

by lil eg not cs on Nov 25, 2009 1:33 PM PST up reply actions

Right. You’ve got it all handled perfectly. The Bruin wasn’t defaced and swift and skillful retaliation to a USC monument did happen.

My bad.

by Seanny Rotten on Nov 25, 2009 2:11 PM PST up reply actions

I have plenty of initiative

Rally Comm chose to “guard” the bear last night. They failed. Plain and simple.

by lil eg not cs on Nov 25, 2009 3:12 PM PST up reply actions

Where were you?

Each Bruin failed. I’m 3000 miles and several generations away, and I feel like I’ve failed. Was the entire campus deserted? Didn’t anyone notice that no one was there? Michael Corleone noticed that no one was guarding the hospital, and he took action. Didn’t ANYONE walk past the bear and think that he looked somewhat deserted? Oh, wait. Someone did walk past the bear – a trOJie.

But it wasn’t my responsibility to guard the bear that night, so it’s OK. As long as there is someone else to blame, then I don’t have to step up. Or as Seanny so aptly put it, “The Bruin wasn’t defaced and swift and skillful retaliation to a USC monument did happen. My bad.”

Like someone said in another thread

If it’s someones job it guard the bear on a particular night then it is their fault. I can’t speak for the rest of the students who walked by and saw no one watching. What i can say is that Rally Comm signed up for Tuesday night. When someone says “hey i got this night,” especially if it’s a campus organization, then I trust them to take that night.

Posted on the other thread...

Creativity is the operative word here.

Paint? Child’s play.

Manure dropped from a helicopter. Been there, done that.

Welding a bronze dildo to tommy toejams ass? Now we’re talking.

but now that video got my creative juices flowing!

I posted something similar to this on another thread. In short, we need to be unconventional.

We need to think in terms of 4th generation warfare. The fake ’SC commercial put on by Bruins a few years back was an excellent shot.

A good start is painting Tommy Trojan pink, blue & gold in support of breast cancer awareness week and Mother’s Day. That way we spread the word about breast cancer & let them know UCLA owns them. Win / win! Who says we have to confine ourselves to the last week in November or the first week in December? We need to put our enemies in a constant state of fear and anxiety. How about commandeering the PA’s at USC so it plays either UCLA fight song? We need to take pages from the great warriors of history and fight unconventionally.

In 1961 CalTech pulled off one of the greatest Rose Bowl hoaxes of all time. With all the smart people at UCLA we can’t do this? We can’t find a way to do this at the Coliseum? We can’t find a way to set up a B.S. twitter page, get USC fans to join it and then once UCLA wins the game, mass text everyone a beautiful message that says, “UCLA RULES” or something?

The note about reconfiguring Tommy Trojan’s arm so it looked like he was stabbing himself was spot on. I’m not at all surprised it was the War Baby Generation who had such a "Will Do" attitude.

This Bruin Security force is a joke. We need 4 paintball snipers watching the bear 24/7 starting the Saturday BEFORE the USC/UCLA game. Anyone who gets too close to the Bruin gets pelted with Blue & Gold!! And it’s taped for posterity and immediately sent to YouTube so that the whole world can see the pwnage!!! C’MON people, it’s not this tough.

This might be distasteful

But I could dump out fliers from a helicopter at the big game on Saturday of OJ carving a turkey (with Nicole’s head superimposed on it of course). OK maybe that’s too much.

Watched this Earlier

this morning when I got to work. I’d been thinking about that play and the game since listening to John Barnes’ interview on Petros and Money Show yesterday afternoon. Boy I wish they make a movie of this some day.
