SUC game reactions...
Not sure where to start. I would like to think that our team is getting better, after all, we really only lost by 2 touchdowns...minus all the other crap points. We kept it close. Then again, SUC's offense was very weak tonight. They executed very poorly. So what's to say if they were firing on all cylinders that we would have lost by many more points?
There were so many calls on offense that didn't seem to make sense. It felt like we are still the same team from years past. We look lost. We didn't know where to go. KP looked lost. The formations and routes seemed sloppy as before. It didn't seem like we had a plan going in...
Now the defense seemed to have kept us in the game. But the epic failure during the last play to make a stop was horrific. I was telling my wife during our drive to the end zone that this is good because our defensive is getting a really good rest...I think it was like a good 6-7 minute rest! To go back on the field and display such an inexcusable defensive stand when we are only 1 TD from tying...speechless.
So all in all, how are we much improved? Where is the improvement? I would have to say, the players have more heart than previous years. I think our players have more pride in being a BRUIN. I think our players are now displaying more anger and frustration and more desire to win. I think all of that came out of one Brian Price. It's sad to think he might be leaving, but given his circumstances, I want to see him go in the NFL and do well in life. I think he's a good representation of what is right with UCLA football and what is right with hard working players with great character.
Which leads me to what angered me the most...2pt. Petey's TD bomb. It wasn't so much his lack of class, because it's expected of him, but the fact that he might have sent Brian Price and ATV into the pros with such an asshole call. These two players have been nothing but class on the field, to be slapped on the face during their possible last game as a BRUIN makes my blood boil.
In closing, as I've told many, 2pt. Petey only made me a bigger and more die hard BRUIN. Only gave me even more pride to wear my colors. I'm wearing my blue jersey Monday and I'll still say "trojans SUC!"
Being a TRUE BRUIN is not about winning every game, though it would be nice, but it's a culture. You believe in it, or you can trade in your colors with other ones...GO BRUINS!

improvement is obvious, substantial
It cannot be understated how bad we were last year. 4-8, with 2 wins against possibly the two worst teams in the FBS, and 6 losses by 21 or more points. This year we won 6 games and were competitive in every game, losing 0 games by 21+ points, despite breaking in 4 new o-line starters and a freshman qb.
Prince had some bad games, but he also threw for more than 300 yards three times and showed progress throughout the season. The coaches did him not many favors with grossly conservative play calling.
This is a critical offseason. We need to continue to bring in game-changing talent like Sua-Filo, especially on defense (with 5 of our starting front 7 likely not returning) and at WR. We need to work hard to improve. Our frosh and sophs need to become sophs and jrs who are experts in the playbook and at doing the little things that win. Next year, 6-6 won’t be enough. We need to make a leap.

This seemed the best thread for these kind of comments.
I think a lot of our players got caught in the headlights so to speak. You could see it in KP walking around between possessions. Nelson Rosario dropped at least two gimmes that while probably not game changing, would have kept momentum going instead of killing it. Our OL got pushed around. We knew it was a possibility, and it happened. Defense played a great game yesterday I would liked to have seen them rewarded with some turnovers that just happened to bounce back into Trojan hands. Despite all that, we were still in the game. Who knows what this game would have looked like if the Trojan Sponsored Refs had not felt the need to put their stamp on the game. Anybody who still thinks the refs are bad instead of being outright paid for didn’t watch that game last night.
Coaches looked like they were stuck looking into the headlights as well. After opening up the playbook against inferior teams, they closed it back up and called a safe and uninspiring game. I’m still waiting for them to throw it down field. Their substitutions were confusing. I still don’t understand why KC came in for one play at a time. It seemed to me they wanted to shock KP into playing better, but how can you expect the switch to motivate him if he only sits one play? By the time KP hurt his shoulder, KC did not have a lot of time or playbook left to work with. I thought he did an admirable job and can only wonder what kind of spark he could have brought to the team if he had played longer.
At this point it is clear we still have a lot of improvement to make. I can only hope we get invited to some small bowl game so we can get an extra few weeks of practice time. We are better than this, and we’ll show it soon enough. Despite the step back we took last night, we did a lot of things right. Already looking forward to next season.

seriously, they are who we thought they were and we let them get away...
who knew this would sum up our game last night to at tee. We knew they were going to be classless. We knew they were punks. SUC played a horrible game with a mountain of penalties and bonehead plays. The game was there for us. It was handed to us. We let them get away.
