OC Register's Adam Maya - A Trojan Alum - Advanced Bogus Attacks On Rick Neuheisel
Well here is another reason never to trust a "UCLA beat reporter" who happens to be a Trojan alum. It looks like the story concocted by Trojan alum of a UCLA football parent - Brian Theriot' - attacking Coach Rick Neuheisel were totally bogus. Mr. Therior just posted the following message on Bruingold.com:
That is simply amazing. Thanks so much to Mr. Theriot for posting those comments.
Now this begs the obvious question: why did Adam Maya just cut and paste those comments without bothering to contact Mr. Theriot? Why didn't he perform his journalistic responsibility to actually make sure the information he was posting was well sourced and based on reality.
It looks like Adam Maya owes an apology to Rick Neuheisel, the Theriots and the Bruin family who follows the UCLA football program. I am not going to hold my breath and expect Adam to show the same class as Brian Theriot. Again, people wonder why the newspaper industry is dying. Adam just served up another prime example. Just shameful.
GO BRUINS.

Not sure it's a great idea for Mr. Theriot to put his phone # on there
But there’s no doubt that Maya was desperate to divert attention away from the stinker his trOJans put up in Eugene.
Really Maya...
You don’t even bother to confirm the statement with the subject of your story (that goes for the OC Register editorial staff as well)?
Regardless of simply being responsible journalism to confirm such a statement before publication, it is not as if hacked facebook pages and twitter feeds are unheard of. Media sources have been thrown off by forgeries on several occasions in recent months; you would think that somebody at that paper would make sure that they were not being fooled..
Beware! Conspiracy Theories to follow!
What I find troubling is that, according to Mr. Theriot, his Facebook was hacked, which to speaks of unconscionable malfeasance. But, who did it and why? The fact that Adam Maya had access to the comments so soon after they were posted tells me that he has at least a circumstantial link to the perpetrator of a crime.
The cynic in me says it is more than a circumstantial link. But, let us say for the sake of argument that it is only some anonymous email from someone on the net that made him aware of the FB post. He will (if he hasn’t already) eventually become aware that this person is a direct link to a crime that was committed then published to society at large.
Will Adam Maya do what’s right and turn what information he has over to the proper authorities? I’m sure he will hide a coward’s defense of Freedom of Speech, and refuse to divulge his sources. But, this is not Deep Throat and this is not Watergate. There is no free speech endangerment here. Do the right thing Adam, unless you wish to prevent your Alma Mater from receiving another black stain on it’s reputation.

Wow. You know, I read that story and the immediate thought was, THIS IS THE DUMBEST PARENT ON EARTH Even if it were true, why would you sabotage your kid like that. Glad to see that it wasn’t true. Yeah, it shouldn’t have been too hard to verify the story before reporting it. As a former reporter, I’m amazed that the editor (that’s his/her job you know) didn’t ask for verification.
I am sure Maya will do the right thing
He will put an apology on the front page of whatever ‘wrap he’s writing for. He will go straight to the police and report all the facts he knows regarding the hacking. I’m sure this is a very high priority item for him.
He’ll get to it right after just$c* comes clean about bu$hgate.
Classy Move By Mr. Theriot
And really, should we expect anything different from a Trojan alum (Maya) in this case? Forgive me if I’m not holding my breath here.

trOJies are scared
They are scared because they know that in a just world, in which they wouldn’t cheat, UCLA would hand them their asses in every sport.
trOjies have a history of “ratting out” offenses by UCLA athletes, as they did with DeSean Jackson and Baron Davis, after having a hand in getting them in trouble.
You have to wonder how these “reporters” ever become privvy to information like this, whether it was the SUV fiasco, or this particular case. Who tells them that these things have happened? Because it is obvious that they don’t have any investigating skills at all. Methinks, it’s the person who instigated the whole thing in the first place who gives out the tips as well…and it’s usually none other than a trOJie.
But hey, what do I know. I’m just the 800 lbs bruin in the room.
Bruins PR Department
I did want to point out that UCLA’s athletic department was all over this and I worked very closely with Mr. Dellins. If not for the efforts of Mr. Dellins the clear story might not have been told. I want to thank all at Bruin Nation.
