UCLA is officially toast. The Bruins have no shot to get in the NCAA tournament unless they win the Pac-10 tournament. Seriously, even if the Bruins were to win the Pac-10, the question will be what have they done? It’s early but it’s not too soon to announce this after the Bruins were rocked once again in the city of Anaheim, this time in a different venue (Honda Center) and by another team (Mississippi State) by double figures (72-54). The Bruins are now 0-4 in Anaheim.

sad but true
there’s no way that we can get an at-large bid. We’re looking at 13-15 wins max just because of how horrible the Pac 10 is. In a normal year we would probably be struggling to get double digit wins and in the bottom 2 or 3 in the conference…this year we might sneak into the 4-6 range.
Has there ever been a player better than Detlef Schrempf?
on the positive side
at least we are guaranteed an invite to the Pac-10 tourney, since they expanded the field to 10 a few years back…
I doubt we receive an invite to the NIT; it's that bad.
The best thing you can do for your children is to love their mother. John Wooden
Maybe we should just dissolve the team and end the season now.
Seriously, Bruins, I haven’t seen this much nay-saying and hand wringing since the Reign of Error. I thought it was deserved then, because we had no leader. Our basketball program is different.
If there is not even one game that we think we can win, why should we bother to play? Something tells me that these guys think they are a step a way from winning. I haven’t heard Coach Howland say anything about giving up. Let’s stop the constant griping about our team and start encouraging them.
All that said, is the consensus that we need to get rid of Coach Howland? Who will we bring in? Want instant winning? We can try to get Calipari or someone like that. Timmeh is available. There are any number of guys who we can get who will we can count on to get us some wins. And we won’t have to worry about whether our guys are character guys, because we know the kinds of guys that the Calipari types get. And we have enough smart kids that we can get any of these guys past their SAT’s and all their papers and finals in school.
That’s a real question. I don’t know how to do a poll, but I would like to. Poll question 1: Should Coach Howland either step down or be dismissed. Poll question 2: Who should we bring in as our new coach? Poll question 3: Will we still point fingers at the lack of integrity across town if we bring in a coach like Calipari?
Answers to your Poll Questions and Comment:
(1) Absolutely not.
(2) N/A.
(3) N/A.
People are frustrated because the drop off has been so quick and decisive. The team looks very bad on both ends of the floor. I commented a game or so ago about the “gap” between the old Ben Ball Warriors and the new kids, and how the seniors on this team didn’t bridge the gap between what those kids did not win and what needs to be done now. Another poster amplified this in a post last night.
Does this mean we should abandon hope for UCLA basketball? No. Does this mean that we all need to lower our expectations for this season? IMHO, without a doubt, especially if CBH begins to groom some of the raw, freshmen talent we have to prepare for the future.
This season is going to be a very bumpy road but I have confidence (as most do on this board) that CBH will turn things around.
IHMO, the turn around will begin at some point this season when the light starts to go on for some of the younger guys.

Fox, did we miss the /sarc tag?
I think everyone is reacting from pain here. Maybe we/they are spoiled like so many of the UCLA naysayers accuse us of being?
Guar-ohn-teed if this season is the stink bomb that it is starting out to be, then an 18-and-something season next year will be like rain on parched earth.
What’d Darrel Royal of Texas used to say? “Ya gotta dance whith who brung ya.”
I know you know this, but this is for the younger and more impetuous amongst us: Ben Howland has too-o-o-o-o long of a record of success to go bad and..oh, let’s see if I can drag out yet another cliche..the sun shines on every dog’s ass some time.
God, it's great to be a Bruin!
....
Unless Howland can pull a coaching miracle, the basketball season is an official PUNT, and wait for a talent infusion next year.
