OSU, Not UCLA, To Play TCU in Arlington
It's not official yet, but it looks like our non-conference schedule will not reach DEFCON 1 after all.

I don't understand ...
I realize our 2010 OOC schedule is tentative, but at this late date, how much leeway do we have to shuffle our schedule around and change who we plan to play without financial repercussion? In another thread, it was mentioned that UT – Texas Tech were rescheduling their game for 18 September when we are currently scheduled to play UT. How will we find a replacement opponent on such short notice and what are UT’s obligations to us? And TCU isn’t currently listed as a prospective opponent next year. If we were considering playing them 4 September, what were we going to do with KSU with whom we have a home and home obligation to fulfill in Manhattan? It just doesn’t make sense.
There's always a buy out clause
Usually for these neutral site games, it’s put together by ABC or ESPN as a headliner game so they will pay the buy out for each team to get out of their scheduled game and into the new one.

As much as I would love to go to Austin
for a roadie, dropping the Horns and scheduling San Diego State or San Jose State makes a lot more sense for the team next year.
If any game gets dropped
it will likely be K-State. Dropping them in favor of a weaker team would be awfully nice, but we’ll have to see if that can get done.
What concerns me is we play a brutal OOC schedule and may get little TV exposure out of it. K-State and Houston are at home, which means it’s subject to the Pac-10’s TV deal. Those could easily end up FSN games and Texas is in the Big 12, who also has a deal with FSN. We would play all three OOC games in FSN. Hopefully we can get Texas either on ABC or ESPN, but we’ll see how that goes. It will largely be determined by what other games around the country are on those days.

Has the Texas date been set yet?
It’s looking like it’s going to be 9/25 now, right? Texas moves their Florida Atlantic game to later in the year. At least that’s what I’m thinking.
If it’s the 25th, there’s a handful of games I could see competing with TV time for that game:
Oregon State / Boise State
Stanford/Notre Dame
Oklahoma/Cincinnati
Miami/Pitt
LSU/West Virginia
None of those games really have a lot of cache, though. I would easily expect the Texas/UCLA game to be one of the games that ABC picked up for the 5PM PDT/8PM EDT slot.
There's also the need to guarantee each conference a certain number
of primetime games a year so the Big 12 may get booted for Cincy, Pitt or W. Virginia to get the Big East in then, while there’s a compelling Big East game. We could get onto ABC there, but the prospect of a brutal OOC with no great exposure looms large.

Congrats DG
It’s always great to play teams that are overwhelming to build confidence. Great Logic
Back in business
If you think DG is crazy
Oregon State’s AD is completely bonkers. OSU always starts out slow because they have scheduled some insane OOC opponents over the past 5 years. Their schedule next year is TCU, Boise State, and Louisville (keep in mind, when they announced Louisville, this was when Louisville was good).
That’s just setting yourself up for fail.
I'm not so certain about TCU and BSU next year
I’m not saying the horned frogs and broncos will be bad. Not by any means. But it is more rare for a non-major conference team to perpetually reload and have great years back-to-back. Not unheard of, but it’s not as certain as, say, Texas will be darn good next year.
For that matter, I’m not certain Houston will unquestionably be the biggest nightmare we’ve faced since the BYU tragedy. Those teams seem to fluctuate year-to-year, so I’ll have a better feeling after the season starts next year. Still, I doubt TCU, BSU or Houston will be horrible. They may just not be all-world material.
All of that said, both ADs from UCLA and Oregon St are retarded, especially when neither of our teams are perpetually top-5 material every year…yet. When we get to that point, then I’ll consider rooting for a tough non-conference game so that we don’t get stuck like Cincy. Until then, I like the Kansas St.s and the SDSUs of the world.
