UCLA @ Notre Dame: Video

The Core

While we suffered another loss, three Bruins continue to demonstrate they are the core of this team. What we need is a few more to step up and elevate their level of play.

If Reeves Nelson continues to play with the toughness he has shown to date along with solid scoring, he will join LMR and PAA as a prototypical Ben Ball Warrior. Nelson didn't back down against All-American Harangody, fearlessly scoring on him a few times and showing emotion and fight.

Star-divide

Michael Roll is a known quantity and this season he's playing with confidence and consistency. Great to see him shooting in rhythm and knocking down those threes.

Today was a breakout game for Malcolm Lee. He scored 29 points knocking down threes, hitting mid-range jumpers, as well as driving to the rim. Along the wau he dished off four assists with only one turnover. Let's hope his confidence and play rub off on the rest of his class.

We have a core to build on and just a few more games to add to that core before conference play. Time to step up boys. Time for a few boys to turn into young men.

Go Bruins!

For a loss

I actually enjoyed those highlights. Go figure (and I despise moral victory).

Yeah, I wanted to focus on the positive

That might have to be the mentality for this season . . .

One thing I didn't notice during the game

We only had 6 players in uniform on our bench, and one of those was AS who is redshirting. I’m sure Howland would love nothing more than to limit ND’s and JA’s minutes, but the lack of depth is killing this team right now.

Interesting

Its tough right now that we only have 3 players capable of scoring double digits. If ND or JA doesn’t step up soon, it could be a 3 man who all year.

In watching ML’s video, I noticed something interesting. It was with regards to the play after the 3 and the steal with the layup, when Harangody cherrypicked afterward (at the 1:10 mark). Everyone on here blamed ND for that, but ND actually put himself in good rebounding position to follow up if ML missed and the person who actually got burned by Harangody was the goldenchild RN who was standing right next to Harangody when he took off. To ND’s credit he saw this and immediately took off after him, but there was no way he was going to catch him. Just something to think about before we continue to blame ND for everything.

Poncho, Poncho, Poncho

There you go again. Letting you astute factual analysis get in the way of the ND hate fest.

Shame on you for putting a damper on the party.

sjh

PS. On the game thread, many of us missed the beautiful backdoor pass — actually we saw the pass but didn’t know who threw it. Later, we learned it was ND.

lol

its like a kid in a candy store. ND saw the candy and went for it rather than keeping his man in sight. ND is still on the hook for this one…

i am having too much fun with the hate fest!

Loved the Malcolm highlights

Reminded me of some of the shots we used to set up for Josh Shipp.

I didn't get to see the game

so these highlights are nice. Thanks for posting them!

Nelson is going to be good

He’s smooth down low and pretty advanced for a freshman with those moves. I like his game a lot. We may have lost Gordon, but Nelson is filling in nicely in the center/big man role. He needs help on the glass though. Bobo just seems slow. Played 10 minutes with no rebounds today, which is not very good for a 6-10 guy. Lane looks like he has potential.

I think at some point Howland needs to move Honeycutt up to the starting 5 and have Anderson first off the bench at the point. Maybe try to get Hamid in there as some guard depth. He was 4-5 for 8 points on Tuesday with 17 minutes, so maybe he can work himself into the rotation.

I just hope ML doest have too many big breakouts

or else we might not have him back next year : )

William Doolittle at your service, a.k.a. will do.

Can't wait to see how he develops

Reeves Nelson has already shown some great potential and I really look forward to seeing him progress under Howland’s guidance. He showed great heart against ND, and that just builds on the toughness and dedication he showed during the Kansas game. This is going to be a tough season, but watching him (and others) develop will be great silver lining, especially if it puts us in position for success over the next couple of seasons.

that's the joy

of college basketball. love to watch them as they carry on the great tradition of UCLA basketball. this group has a steep climb but if they get there, it will make the accomplishment that much more sweeter!

GO BRUINS!
