Temple Owls: The Trendy Pick To "Upset" UCLA
Just want to make sure everyone out there following Bruins and our football team are taking note of the following observations. From the nationally syndicated Sports Network:
If the Owls can put enough pressure on Prince and keep his receivers from catching easy passes Temple will have a good shot at picking up its first bowl win in 30 years. But the Owls will also have to get significant production from the passing attack in order to keep the UCLA defense off balance.
Sports Network Predicted Outcome: Temple 24, UCLA 17
Also from the Sports Illustrated:
Final analysis: UCLA's offense has struggled all season, and freshman quarterback Kevin Prince is recovering from a shoulder injury suffered against USC. Prince has been throwing and looks like he will play, but it is doubtful he will be 100 percent. Temple held six opponents during its nine-game win streak under 20 points and should be able to stand up to a Bruins' offense ranked No. 99 nationally in scoring. Temple's best shot is to grab an early lead and wear down UCLA with its strong running game. UCLA may be deeper and more athletic, but the edge in motivation should push Temple over the top.
The pick: Temple 20, UCLA 17.
EagleBank: UCLA (6-6) vs. Temple (9-3) -- Al Golden thinks UCLA interviewed the right coach but hired the wrong one. Winner: Temple
Sure hope the coaches and players are making note of all these "observations."
UCLA may be a 4 or 5 point "favorite" heading into Saturday but after hearing about the drama coming out of Spaulding and reading the coverage from last couple of weeks right now it sure feels like its the Owl's game to lose. Really hope our coaches and players are taking all of the feedback in and come out focused and determined, and ready to make a definitive statement on national television. A well played game resulting in a solid win will do wonders for Bruins heading into Neuheisel's third season. We need this win and we need it more badly than the Temple Owls.
GO BRUINS.

I think we'll end up winning
but I’m concerned that Sports Illustrated may have described the situation very well. I understand our kids want to play and are happy to be in a bowl game, but it really seems like they are treating this as their shot at glory. I’m worried, to say the least.
yikes
at first I belived Anything less than a solid Win would be a dissapointment. At this point i will be happy with a one point W! I Agree N, CRN And our Bruins NEED This Game in order to have momentum and motivation to build off of. Wow im nurvous

i still think we'll win handily
I went to the Temple-Penn St game early this year and Temple just couldn’t handle PSU’s size and speed. No doubt, they’re a well coached team, but we have the clear advantage in personnel. As much as people want to pick Temple, i think Stewart Mandel of SI says it best:
The Owls, playing in their first bowl game in nearly 20 years, will be by far the more excited participant, but Al Golden’s team propped up its record playing opponents with a combined 44-71 record. Brian Price, Rahim Moore and the Bruins’ defense should handle things. UCLA 20, Temple 12
Has there ever been a player better than Detlef Schrempf?
nope, the timing just doesn't work out
if i was still back there i would’ve for sure, but I don’t go back to school until the 18th. The timing sucks…i was hoping for the Humanitarian bowl so that I could actually see a game this year lol

Hard work beats talent when talent doesnt work hard….advantage in talent means nothing if we don’t apply it. I watched SMU blow Nevada out of the water in the Hawaii bowl, Nevada just did not show up to play, didn’t look excited at all, and Nevada support in the stands was pitiful – they estimated less than 100 fans, even though Nevada is closer than Texas. On the other hand SMU was excited for their first bowl game in 25 years, and it showed.

Well said
“Hard work beats talent when talent doesnt work hard”
This has been my concern all along.
However, we’ve played hard all season and I don’t see a let up now.
sjh
Temple is preparing well for this game.
I hope CRN can see that this game won’t be a walk in the park because right now, the team is giving off that vibe. They seem to be having too much fun for this bowl game rather than showing focus and hard work-ethic to prepare.
I am hoping for a win, but like many other members on this site have posted, this could easily be a Vegas bowl vs. Wyoming all over again. Go Bruins!
