Special Saturday Open Thread: Holiday Bowl Season Edition

Well, not sure how many of you are going to be around BN tonight. If you are hanging out over and are keeping track of few bowl games going on today here is a place to put up all your quick takes and observations.

I imagine everyone here will keep an eye on a particular game from tonight but the game between UNC and Pitt should be a pretty good game between two evenly matched teams. I like the defense Butch Davis is putting together in Chapel Hill and it will be interesting to see how the Panthers (9-3, 5-2 in the Big East) come out and play in this game after choking it all away against Cincy Bearcats. UNC had a decent season in Davis's third year with a record of 8-4 and 4-4 in the ACC.

You can keep track of the scores over here. One game is already underway. A 6-6 Marshall team is beating up 9-4 Ohio team from the MAC conference (Ohio also happened to be the last opponent Temple played this season) in the third quarter by a score of 21-7. Anyway, if you are taking in all the actions today, here is your open thread. Fire away.

GO BRUINS.

Marshall is playing great

I am definitely surprised at how well the Herd are playing. They just seem to want this game more than the Bobcats. Ohio probably came into this game disappointed since they lost the MAC title game.

Motivation

It plays such a huge role in these games. See it every time.

by Nestor on Dec 26, 2009 12:17 PM PST up reply actions

I think its a big reason SMU was able to come out so strong against Nevada

You could tell we were loving every minute of being in Hawaii, and the intensity showed on the field. I think its the reason underdogs have played so well thus far, and I really hope UCLA doesnt fall into the same trap.

William Doolittle at your service, a.k.a. will do.

by Ollie on Dec 26, 2009 4:27 PM PST up reply actions

Yep

Very similar situation to what we have in Temple. It’s a big reason some of the recent shenanigans around our team seem disconcerting to me. I hope I am wrong.

by Nestor on Dec 26, 2009 4:32 PM PST up reply actions

agreed

all we can hope is that everyone practices hard, makes curfew, and is focused in D.C. Nevada had just about everything go wrong that could go wrong, disciplinary issues, academic issues, injuries, it all seemed to ruin their moral heading into the game. Well, that, and a couple of deep bombs right up the heart of the field from Padron : )

Huge story

Best wishes to Meyer and hope he gets his health back. Florida despite the on field success has been having lot of off field issues last 2-3 years. Their rapsheet was getting pretty long.

Interesting

I kind of wish he was playing then at least 40 percent of the broadcast would have been about $C scandals. In any event they are a little screwed. If he doesn’t play, then it means something is really rotten in Peteyville.

Did Meyer's resignation just give USC a new lease on life?

It’s clear to all of us that cracks are starting to show in the program across town. But looking at the recruiting lists, it’s clear that a good deal of the remaining undecided blue chip recruits are looking hard at both USC and Florida. When the dust settles, it might be USC who is the biggest beneficiary of Meyer’s resignation. The likes of Ronald Powell, Dietrich Riley, and others just might be swayed toward SC when they might have been Gainesville bound otherwise.

This is just sheer speculation, but it’s a scary thought to ponder.

I dunno

Williams is a beast… but if he "shud have dominated"? I dunno about the credibility there

Beating themselves

This game is more of a loss for BC than a win for $C. They (SC) look so beatable. If BC had a decent QB and some WR’s who could actually catch it might be closer….

Hmmm

We might have won last month with that combo.

seriously

This is another case of a team beating itself… so similar to Nov 28th. I can still those easy drops by our guys…

Things Turned For BC

When they lost that fumble when they had 1st and goal early on in the 3rd quarter. They score there and they not only get ahead but it changes the complexion of the game immensely.

Funniest thing about this game

U$C couldn’t get their headsets to work so made BC turn their’s off.

CANNOT Wait For September 18, 2010

When those Trojan scumbags come up here to the Twin Cities to play the goofy Gophers. You guys can bet I’ll be clad in True Blue and Gold; harrassing ketchup and mustard every chance I get that weekend.

Think That Would Have Been The '78 Season

The year before in ’77 we came up here to play the Gophs at old Memorial Stadium. I was still at home in Iowa but from what I heard it was raining for a good chunk of the game and we got trounced that day 27-17; not as close as the score indicates as we were down 27-7 at one point.

You are correct

That was the 78 season, my freshman year.

Though I should confess

The first Rose Bowl game I went to was in 86.
