[UPDATED] Lazeric Jones (JC Point Guard) To UCLA ...Thank God!

For all  of you struggling with the sight of JA running the point this year, and with the thought that he may be running the show by himself for the next few years.  Fear no more.  Our point guard of the future - Lazeric Jones - committed to our Bruins last night.  All I can say is ...thank you, thank you, thank you!!  Did I say how thankful I was?

JA would be a great backup point guard, if he is limited to about 10-15 minutes a night.  However, we can never do what we are used to doing with him as the starter.  Lazeric Jones is the real deal people.  While I haven't seen him play personally, a friend of mine out of Denver said he has seen him play a couple times and that he is legit.  He apparently played HS ball in Chicago, but really started to develop in the past couple years.  He was the #1 rated JC player in the country, and he will come in right away and it shouldn't take long for him to supplant JA.

Now, if we can get McCallum ... then we are set for a while.  If we have McCallum and Jones running the show (just like RW and DC), then we can let JA get a few minutes a game either at the 1 or 2 spot for 10-15 a night, then we are in good shape.  Add that to big man Josh Smith, with the shooting of Tyler Lamb ... and the added bonus of losing ND ... things will get turned around pretty quickly.

Just gotta suck it up this year and let guys like JK and MR enjoy their senior seasons and let them know how much we appreciate their hard work and efforts these past couple years.  While they aren't stars, they are true Ben Ball Warriors, and always will be, even in tough years like this one.  Welcome Mr. Jones!!

UPDATE (N): This is a nice post christmas present from Mr. Jones. He offered up some pretty good comments to Jon Gold from the Daily News (emphasis added throughout):

"Coming home and talking to my family about my trip, I really liked the coaching staff," Jones said. "I have a chance to grow up with the team. This is a young team, and I see that the player do have a tremendous amount of talent, but they're just growing up. With me coming in, I can try to build with the team."

He also talked about defense:

"Defensively, I've really improved, guarding my position," Jones said. "That's really one of my strengths. Coach Howland really preaches about defense, and I want to help there. But offensively, I feel like I can be a coach on the floor, an extension of Coach Howland. I want to help the team by scoring when they need me, but I want to create."

And then I really liked the following:

"I feel that the coaching staff can really take me to that level," Jones said. "I'm sure all the players came in really good, but no one comes in great. I really like how Russell Westbrook came in and worked really hard and worked on getting his game to the next level. Ultimately, like any other kid, that's my ultimate goal. I think they can help me get there."

It sounds like a kid who is not coming in with any sense of entitlement. We are going to need that to bring back the recent legacy of AA, RW, JF, LRMAM, LMR and PAA in Westwood. It would be nice to use initials around a TEAM where we can worship classic Ben Ball warriors setting aside all their individual interest to put the team above everything else. Hopefully Jones is a good fit. GO BRUINS.
