Recapping a Rivalry Game Loss Podcast Open Thread (7:30 pm PST)

With no game on tap this week, tonight's podcast is all recap, although we will take a look at UCLA's bowl possibilities and the rest of the Pac-10. We'll recap the USC game and break down each and every part of it. What did the Bruins do well and where did they struggle? What does all of that mean for the future of the program and what is up with the recent transfers/players quitting football? All of that is on tap for tonight's podcast.

We'll also take any calls you have. You just need to follow these four steps:

1) Call (724) 444-7444

2) Enter the Call ID 65238 and press # afterward

3) When asked for your PIN, press 1#

4) Talk to us!

We want to hear your thoughts on the team and Saturday's game. Do you have questions? Call in and ask them. You can also use this thread to question and comment and we'll keep an eye on this to work it into the show. As always, you can listen live by clicking play above or you can listen afterward by clicking play or by checking out iTunes.

Yeah

When I looked at it earlier I knew something was off, but I didn’t know what it was. It was only the most important part of it.

Nah

I think all of them have been really good. I think in the very first hoops podcast, you guys took a little while to get in rhythm, but you have been in sync since then. I have been enjoying them and really encourage everyone else to listen in (it will make our discussions in comment threads on other posts even better).

That play there is why college should adopt the NFL PI rule

It’s ridiculous that you can just bring a guy down way down field because the penalty is a max 15 yards. If you stop a guy from catching a 40 yard pass, the penalty should be 40 yards. Adopt the NFL rule and go spot of the foul.

Ryan,

I have a couple questions for the podcast:

1) How serious is Norm Chow in leaving UCLA for San Jose St.?

2) Do you think CRN will have a field position offense for the duration of his tenure instead of an explosive offense? In other words, is he more inclined to be conservative. I’m just getting my mindset ready just in case Chow leaves the program.

I agree

One of the commentators said that is wasn’t too bad a call since the OSU defense isn’t stopping Oregon.. but being within 1 means even if they give up 7 it’s still a 1 score game… I don’t understand the conversion attempt either.

by Chris09 on Dec 3, 2009 9:01 PM PST up reply actions

Have to agree

Not usually one to love such conservative playcalls, but a FG would have been big there. Making it a 1 Point game with 6 minutes to go would have left plenty of options for the Beavers to come back.

OMG if team “x” is doing this to team “y” why couldn’t our offense do that to team “y”

Oh, well...

just saying that it makes much more sense to go for it, given the flow of the game. I’m really torn about who I want to win, since my cuz goes to Oregon.

OSU win allows UCLA to go to PAC 10 Bowl

Missed most of the podcast - did you guys go over thix

Only way I see it is if Oregon were to jump Boise (can’t see that happening) or PSU/Iowa (makes sense, but not sure if the bowls see it that way).

by bruinhoo on Dec 3, 2009 9:14 PM PST up reply actions

ya we talked about it

Oregon would go to a BCS game if they lost, giving UCLA that last spot

There's no one in the world that wants to beat UCLA more than _______.

by ucla13_usc9 on Dec 3, 2009 9:15 PM PST up reply actions

No

They would have possibly gone to a BCS game if they lost.

by ucla13_usc9 on Dec 3, 2009 9:17 PM PST up reply actions

It was really doubtful

They would have had to jump both Iowa and Boise State in that instance. There’s no way Oregon would jump Boise State. Zero.

by CAJason80 on Dec 3, 2009 9:19 PM PST up reply actions

no at large

BSU wouldnt be the guy to compete with, there is still a bottom feeding 14th spot open

There's no one in the world that wants to beat UCLA more than _______.

by ucla13_usc9 on Dec 3, 2009 9:20 PM PST up reply actions

What is presumed to be the Big-10's slot, right?

The concept of the Big 10 getting an at-large BCS spot sounding ridiculous enough…

by bruinhoo on Dec 3, 2009 9:22 PM PST up reply actions

Iowa probably would have got the nod ahead of Oregon

I don’t agree with it either.

I also think all of this is somewhat academic, because I think Pitt’s going to beat Cincy this weekend, in which case the Bearcats would take that last spot anyhow. (Yeah, I know…trusting Wannstedt. It’s a bad idea.)

by CAJason80 on Dec 3, 2009 9:24 PM PST up reply actions

Also, uh, academic...since

uh…Oregon lost and all. But this is a great hypotethical argument! With myself!

by CAJason80 on Dec 3, 2009 9:25 PM PST up reply actions

Okay, here was my thinking

Rose- Oregon St. vs. Ohio St.
Sugar- SEC Title loser vs. Cincy
Orange- ACC Champ vs. TCU
Fiesta- Boise St. vs. ________

That one open spot in the Fiest is where Oregon could have snuck in.

It possibly allows UCLA to go to a Pac-10 bowl

If OSU won, Oregon could still be selected as a BCS at-large, allowing us to slip into the Poinsettia Bowl. No guarantee at all though. It would depend on whether a BCS bowl, likely the Fiesta, picked Oregon or not. Doesn’t matter anymore though because Oregon is going to win.

The Rose Bowl

I always feel violated when other teams use our home stadium for the Jan.1 game.

I can’t wait until we are back in “The Rose Bowl” game.

Great game to watch

between two very good teams. Both represented the Pac-10 well. Hopefully Arizona beats SC so Oregon St. can at least have a shot at the Holiday Bowl.

Completey unrelated to the game...

but someone in Oregon’s student body needs to go to Tucson.

Pete Carroll should take notes

of how to win w/ class. After the game Oregon coach Chip Kelly went to console Beavs QB Sean Canfield for a hard fought effort. Win or lose, I can never see Pete exhibiting such tact. I am glad he will not be representing the Pac 10 this year in the Rose Bowl.
