The Face of a Ben Ball Warrior
If the Bruins are going to do anything this season, they'll need the fight, attitude and heart Reeves Nelson put on display today. The freshman battled inside for 9 points and 9 rebounds before he was essentially TKO'ed with 14 minutes left in the game. He did return later in the game, but the swelling in his eye rendered him ineffective and he reluctantly had to return to the bench.
Video of the eye injury and the shot he made that wasn't allowed follows.
Let's hope RN has a speedy recovery and his play infects the rest of the team.
Go Bruins!

Love it
He’s college BB’s modern answer to Jack Lambert. If only the late John Facenda could narrate his highlight reel.
Formerly UCLA Class of 86
I was waiting for someone to post a shot of that.
I thought that he had just been poked in the eye. It swelled up IMMEDIATELY. I was shocked when they got a shot of the eye a few seconds after it happened.
Horrible that his basket was disallowed.
And horrible that the team that fouled gets to choose the foul shooter under such circumstances. (And really sad that our PG was the one chosen and, predictably, didn’t come through. Being money at the free throw line should be a prerequisite for the PG position.)
Our whole team...
…is an embarrassment from the line. I shoot about 60% myself and I never even played high school ball. Then again, there is much more pressure when you are shooting in front of 10,000 fans and a TV audience.
Great performance by RN tonight.
He was a monster on the glass, and the best thing about his game is it all came down to hustle. Definitely a silver lining to this year’s gloomy cloud.
I also couldn’t get over that eye. Must have been some jab to make it swell up like that. And, he still came in afterwards.
Jack Lambert = great comparison.

Plus, that’s a dumb rule, letting the other team choose anyone to shoot. Check with the scorekeeper who will have sesaon stats. Pick the player on the floor who has the FT % closest to the injured player.
greg in denver - UCLA guy for life
This is a rule change
In the olden days, we had some guy who couldn’t shoot free throws and we had Andy Hill, who couldn’t miss. Hill’s percentage was around 95%, if it was that low. So the guy who couldn’t shoot gets fouled and is hurt, and Coach gets to choose a sub to put into the game. Naturally, he chose Hill, and naturally, Hill’s FT’s were so good that he may have gotten six or seven extra points based on his perfect form.
I like that rule. The team that commits the foul shouldn’t get to benefit from violating the rules, especially if they hurt a player while violating the rules. So the shooting team gets to put in a sub to handle the shots, and can put in anyone.
