Two Bruins on California's "Mt. Rushmore of Sports"
ESPN did a feature on the 4 greatest sports figures from each state. California's 4 greatest figures are:
Tiger Woods
John Wooden
Magic Johnson
Jackie Robinson
Also receiving consideration:
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
Jackie Joyner-Kersee
Rafer Johnson
All in all, 5 Bruins considered along with lots of Lakers, Dodgers, Niners, and Giants.

Mt Rushmore?
Maybe it should be Mr. since they are all guys. JJK can be the first on Mrs. Rushmore.

What?
Where is SC football star OJ Simpson? thats right, he became a double murder?
Where is SC baseball great Mark McGuire? Oh yeah, he was on steriods and had to plead the fifth in front of congress.
Where is SC football star Reggie Bush? He was an illegible paid player in college who went on to a mediocre pro career.
The trOJans could never have anyone on the ESPN Mt. Rushmore

But, only trOJans are eligible
for Mt. Bushmore, which is more of a crevasse than a mountain.

Tiger Woods and Magic
No offense to Tiger and Magic, both of who are at the pinnacle of their respective sports but I think that those who composed this list didn’t want to make their Mt. Rushmore too UCLA heavy. By leaving off Kareem, the greatest player in the NBA (much of with the Lakers) and probably one of the greatest to ever where ANY college uniform let alone from such a prestigious school as UCLA, they could avoid any appearance of bias. However, it would not be bias but just the plain fact that UCLA produces and will continue to produce the finest athletes in a state that is superlative for producing the finest athletes.
That’s fine and dandy though. I love Magic and Tiger is the best thing in golf, so congrats to them.

magic i'll agree with you on
I think in that case it was a “pick and choose” thing. I think Magic and Kareem are both 2 of the 5 best NBA players of all time, and they may wanted to avoid a UCLA bias with that pick. But not only is Tiger the best thing in golf, he’s the best golfer of all time; and IMO the most dominant athlete in any sport ever (although Phelps is giving him a run. I don’t think Russell or Wilt could be called that because the competition was too inferior). California just happens to be a pinnacle of sports greatness, and there are simply too many great athletes to choose from.
