CSI: ASU
Not to flog a dead horse regarding the SPTRs last night...but there's some interest in some of the previous calls by the SPTRs.
Here's the video of the no-call on Harden plus the blocking foul called on Aboya prior to the charge call on DC.
Harden takes out Aboya as he dishes to Pendergraph - no call. Glasser gets a blocking foul call on Aboya who seems much more set than Pendergraph against DC.
The point of this post is not to whine about the loss, rather, it is to illustrate what we all know about the poor officiating we get in the Pac-10. Hope the new commish cleans this up.
This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of BruinsNation's (BN) editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of BN's editors.

Thanks for the video!
Even before the DC call, it was hard not to notice how the definition of charge/block seemed to change from possession to possession. There were missed calls as well, including some that benefited UCLA, but referees missing something is a LOT more understandable to me than them flip-flopping on the definition of such a basic rule.
The look Aboya gave the ref after the no-call on Harden was classic.
There was a play in the 2nd half last night
Where Ty Abbott (#3) literally took about 6 steps, and no traveling call was made (it all took place before he began his dribble). I would love to see a replay of it.
I usually dont like to complain about refs, because the bad calls do tend to go both ways (like, I thought the officiating at the UW game was bad both ways), but last night was kinda ridiculously one sided in its badness.
The refs cost us the game, but the announcers were even more lost
They seemed set on not saying a positive thing about UCLA the entire game, going so far as to describe ASU’s turnover problem instead of UCLA’s defense. Meanwhile, they praised every player on ASU, as well as the coaching staff. Any love for the Bruins or CBH? Only saying that “this is a team that’s been to three straight final fours,” while implying that a) a fourth trip was unlikely and b) the team wasn’t playing up to par. The worst part, though, was when they thought an intentional foul should be called on Shipp, who stuck his leg out after shooting a desperation three. Just needed to get that off my chest. Let’s hope for a less nightmarish situation tomorrow, shall we?
In light of that no call for knocking down Aboya,
there was a call on DG for an illegal screen in which he may have moved his hip out 6" that was terrible, and forced us to turn over the ball.
PAA had both feet set and was not moving when he got plowed over.
sjh
I remember that call and if not mistaken...
Roll buried the three as the whistle blew. Roll had it going on last night.
The difference between Aboya and Pendergraph...
Both Glasser and Collison tried to do the same thing in avoiding the defender. Aboya stood still, the contact was minimal, and it should have been a no call. Pendergraph kept moving towards Collison, they both fell over, and a foul should have been called on Pendergraph.
Two things from Dohn today
First, about the refs in general: “I don’t like to complain about refs or blame them for the outcomes of games, but I thought it was a horribly officiated game Thursday. It was awful, in my opinion.”
Second, from the head of Pac 10 officials: “…Bill McCabe, the head of officiating for the Pac-10, said a block should have been called on Arizona State’s Jeff Pendergraph in the closing minute of UCLA’s loss Thursday. Instead, Darren Collison was called for a charge.”
Thanks Bill. That’s really helpful…
Let's replay the last 43 seconds
OK, Bill McCabe, since a bad call seriously influenced the outcome of the game, how about the Bruins and Devils get together Sunday and replay the end of the game. Score tied, 69-69, Collison at the line?
That’s how you set things right. Maybe the Pac-10 office should have a wall of TV screens and monitor games for calls like this and blow the whistle when a serious, season-changing error is made.
