Kiffin is who we thought he was!
Bumped. Posted in February, 2009. GO BRUINS. -N
Continuing the enlightened coaching philosophy of his mentor Cheatie Peatie, Lane Kiffin publicly disparaged Urban Meyer to a bunch of UT boosters at a signing day party for calling a recruit while on a visit to Tennessee.
Now, let's forget for a moment that Urban Meyer has had success everywhere he has coached (won 2 national championships at Florida, made Utah a non-BCS beast, etc.), while Little Laney has failed when not in the shadow of Cheatie.
No, it turns out Kiffin was wrong (as usual). Meyer did not cheat. It is perfectly permissible under both NCAA and SEC rules for a coach to contact a recruit during a visit to another campus if it is during an open contact period (as was the case here).
Not only was Kiffin wrong, but it was Kiffin who violated an actual SEC rule when he bad-mouthed another SEC coach in public. Now poor little Lane has to apologize and see if the SEC further sanctions him. Once a Trojan, always a Trojan.
Classic Cheatie Peetie tactics. I think Lane deserves a nickname worthy of Cheatie Peatie.
Bilkin Kiffin? Little Laney (can't do anything without his daddy)? Insane Lane?

Haven't we seen
this before?
“Kiffin played to the crowd Thursday morning. He manipulated, and he did so dishonestly. Most of all, he casually and carelessly tried to damage the reputation of Florida’s Meyer. Even the most loyal Tennessee fan understands the difference between a rivalry and a rip job.”
Sounds awfully a lot like Cheatey’s Poodle. The proverbial able really doesn’t fall far from the tree…
B.F.
That tree has branches
that reach from UW to the Volunteer State. The kids are only doing what they taught by Petey.
It makes you wonder
all the ugly things Cheatey Petey must have said about UCLA and Toledo when he first started recruiting. It would be great to get an insight into that, from the players. Does anyone here have an ounce of doubt that Petey used his snake tongue?
But hey, what do I know. I’m just the 800 lbs bruin in the room.
Columnist from Alabama
Was on the Dan Patrick Show this morning and completely ripped Kiffin. Enjoy!

I don't care if he was spawned Davy Crockett's DNA!
Kiffin is all trojan.

Nickname ideas
Off the top of my head: Desperation Lane, The Lane to Nowhere, Monte’s Mistake…or my favorite so far:
RePete Offender, or simply RePete.

I like the Lane to nowhere
Its very apt, considering UT’s situation in the SEC East

Across The Face
You guys don't understand Kiffin...
As he was taught and consistently practiced at USC, Kiffin is an absolute stickler for abiding by each and every rule, both the letter and the spirit. Coming from a spotless program like SC, he was understandably appalled by something heinous like a telephone call. It’s good to know that he will be transplanting the Trojan/Raiders morality to the SEC.
I feel sorry for them too
It seems to me (and certainly my knowledge is not exhaustive on the subject) that none of Petey’s scion have panned out.
So schools that continue to employee them like Petey is some sort of King Midas who upon touching his coaching staff turns them into gold, really deserve what they get. What sort of superlative level of coaching has Petey ever demonstrated? The word is “superlative” so I don’t want to hear any apologist say anything about how Petey, given time, is the best coach given his rather mediocre showings against outmatched teams. Petey is a superlative recruiter. No one denies that. We’ll see how he does now that he has a real opponent to content with.
So that leaves the University itself to blame: UW should have turned the f—-ing ESPN off and did their research.

Kiffin's A Big Boy
He’s solely responsible for his own utterly moronic behavior and statements.
If he had half a brain or any class, he would admit he was way out of line, apologize profusely and directly to Meyer, his own boosters and his own team, and sincerely promise to carefully review the rules and focus on his own behavior.
