Lester White to be a Bruin
It looks like we are going to add a new player to THIS YEAR'S recruting class, but check this out from ESPN's Biggins:
White likely heading to UCLA
Talented defensive back Lester White (Riverside, Calif./ J.W North) is one of the top safeties in the West region. He pulled in early offers from programs all over the region and beyond including Washington State, Nebraska, San Diego State, Arizona State, Oregon State and Boise State.White is a hard hitting safety and an elite athlete as well. In what turned out to be deep year for safeties in-state, White has as much upside as just about anyone not named Patrick Hall, but grade concerns held him back from signing this past Wednesday.
"He had some academic hurdles but the main thing was just needed to take the SAT," North coach Scott Pearne said. "He's a bright kid but was just lazy and had some classes he needed to make up. He finally took the SAT a few weeks ago and we should get his results back next week.
"Assuming he passes, and we expect him to do so, the plan is for him to go to UCLA as a grey shirt. We've already talked to them and everything is worked out. He's going to take two Junior College classes next fall to stay in good academic standing and then enroll at UCLA in the spring so he'll be able to do spring practice and his scholarship will count on next year's total."
Pearne did say that Washington has said they will offer White the chance to enroll this fall once he passes the SAT and that's another option White will look at.
"Washington said they have a few scholarships still open and they want to bring him in now," Pearne said. "Lester will look at that but he wants to go to UCLA and wants his grandmother to be able to see him play so he wants to stay local.
"First things first though, he has to get a good test score but I think he'll be fine. I'll tell you what, UCLA is getting a steal in Lester because I've seen the film on all the other safeties and I think he's as good as anyone. No one comes up and can hit like he can in run support. He's just a monster on the field and is just scratching the surface."
That is great news as he is a real good player. I know we have alot of DB's already, but better to have quality at the position, especially in the Pac-10! Another great find, another great player for CRN, CNC, and the rest of the staff! (Sorry I didn't do the quote correctly, but I don't know how to do it so that it is highlighted.)
This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of BruinsNation's (BN) editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of BN's editors.

Sorry
to everyone for the way my original post appears. I tried to put the quote from Biggins in a highlighted box, but it didn’t happen and the entire post just sort of ran into itself and it is hard to make out who said what. I apologize. However, this is another great pickup for us as Lester White is a great talent, and I just wanted to let everyone know about our good fortune.

No need for apologies
From the things I’ve read, he seems to be very physical. That is something I’m looking forward too. I miss the Eric Turner/Matt Darby’s of years past. Whether he ends up a S or LB, it is a welcome addition.
Also, I think people don’t realize how important it was that we fortified the secondary. We’re very fortunate that ATV returned for his SR season. Otherwise, we’d only be returning Viney and Dye at the CB position with any playing experience. It’s going to be real interesting to see who comes out on top in 2010 at the secondary positions. There will be a lot of young talented guys vying for positions.

Only downfall is he'll be spending a year getting his grades in order.
But better he become a better person and live up to his responsibilities than become one of those South Central diploma mill casualties.

I would count him about 50/50
looking at his self reported grades to date, I think he still will have a tough struggle with the academic side to get fully qualified
