Center Court: Ben Ball (Notre Dame) Open Thread

Notre Dame Fighting Irish at UCLA Bruins, Feb 7, 2009 10:00 AM PST

Here we go. Time for our breakfast with the Irish.

Time for JS and rest of our Ben Ball warrior to soar in Pauley:

3255775862_571e11d7e4_b_medium

The Irish will be desperate. They are going to be dangerous as they come in with nothing to lose. For our part we just need to stick with our own game plan: high octane defense, go after every rebound and lose ball, push the ball, and attack the rim.

The tipoff is scheduled for 10:00 am PST.  It will be broadcast on CBS. You can track it via the official site.

As always if you are watching the game, share your instant thoughts/commentary here in our game thread.

Fire away.

GO BRUINS.

More Digger douchedom on ESPN Gameday

During the ‘picks’ segment of the show, Digger’s line when UCLA/ND came up: ‘Pauley Pavilion is our second home. Notre Dame (to win)’. (yeah, Digger. Sure, tell yourself that)

I did enjoy Bob Knight’s reaction, though. In his best, ’what the F have you been smoking, Digger tone, Knight responded: “If the game is played in THIS HEMISPHERE, UCLA wins.”

by bruinhoo on Feb 7, 2009 9:48 AM PST reply actions

Knight

He really said that? I don’t watch ESPN pre game shows any more because … well … I don’t like hearing Digger (and rest of the clowns).

You really had to listen to Knight say it. Had me laughing harder than digger’s preceding pronouncement.

Bruins are trapping agressively along abseline and in corner wing areas.

As soon as Kellogg said Harangody is not a dominant inside player, you could see this was coming. Brockman was purely an inside guy, Harangody spreads his shots around — which can play into our double-team D.

Game brief

For our friends in Seoul and elsewhere…

1) Fast start due to fast defense. JH with at least 3 steals. Smart aggressive doubling in post and in corners.

2) AA2 — I prayed for him to be a 6and 6 guy this season. CBS is even saying AA2 has to be scouted offensively. He hit at least 3 midrange jumpers already.

3) Refs are calling fouls something like 9-3 against US. Ridiculous. DG with 3 fouls.

4) Bruins are rebounding in groups — 2 or 3 guys hitting boards on both ends. Negating ND’s clear height advantage in front court with hustle and positioning.

5) DC setting the tone — working inside on zone, even if not shooting, but still testing the D. And playing smart on D for us, without gambling on steals.

6) Bruins shooting over 60%.

7) Harangody a non-factor… this half. Watch for him to go early at AA2 and try to foul him onto the bench to negate our inside scoring advantage.

I hope his strong play keeps going all the way through March. He’s giving us a great option in our offense. Coupled with AA2’s breakout as an offensive force, we’re hitting on all cylinders at the right time.

But that’s what we knew CBH was setting us up to do since the beginning of the season, despite all the whining and worrying from so-called “fans.”
