Injuries: DG has a bruised left knee & DC playing in pain
Dohn has the details. DG is scheduled to have x-rays Saturday and apparently he was in "lot of pain." Reading that injury report reminded me reports on our opponents when they were done dealing with AA, JF, LMR, LRMAM and AA2. Actually it reminded me reading about injuries to Trojan football team after they were done playing UCLA at the Rose Bowl. Pretty clear which was the more physical team last night. Hopefully they get healed up for next week. GO BRUINS.

Well it reminds me of something different
How much I hate the Pac 10 Tournament.

Regarding the PAC-10 tournament ....
Perhaps we should just treat it like exhibition games from now on and only play the starters for token minutes. That would give our backups and their backups more meaningful minutes and reduce the chance of injury to our key players. The marginal upside of going all out in these games does not seem to justify the huge downside of losing players to injury that we cannot afford to lose.

to me, it's just more basketball
I don’t hate the tournament. I hate that injuries happen, that u$c is a dirty team, and that the SPTR don’t regulate like they’re supposed to so injuries are more likely. I also understand that there isn’t a need for a tourney in the pac-10.
But in the end it’s just more basketball. It gave us an opportunity to improve our seeding. It’s a good primer for the tournament, giving our team a feel for elimination-style competition. It gave us a chance to see some great basketball. The possibility that an injury will happen will be there for every game, regardless of whether it happens during this tournament, or during the regular season, or during the big dance. I’m all for more basketball. If I could watch our team play 8 months out of the year, or more, I’d be happy to do so.

If our guys get injured
I want it to be in a game that matters. There are no regrets if it happens in an important game. We could have easily been screwed last year if Luc’s injury was slightly more severe and if DG and DC aren’t fully ready to go, it could be our undoing this year. And we have this worthless tournament to thank for that.

sure, last year it arguably didn’t matter because we were a 1 seed. This year, I think it mattered because if we won we could’ve helped our seeding.

Still doesn't matter
If you lose, there’s still another game to play. The best we could have done to “help” our seeding this year is maybe a 3 if everything broke right and even then it wasn’t likely. The tournament is worthless.

obviously we disagree
We were projected a 4/5/6 seed going into the tourney. More likely than not, we would’ve been a 5 and would’ve gotten no geographical consideration. The pac 10 tourney was our chance to secure a 4 seed or better which would’ve kept us in the west. It gave us an additional opportunity, so I don’t see how it’s worthless.

The downside
far outweighs the potential benefits if you’re already a tournament team. It is particularly worthless if you’ve already played each team in the Pac-10 twice. Look at the conference tournament champions around the country, particularly in the power conferences: the winners were, in many instances, those teams that had the most to gain from winning the tournament.
But hey, what do I know. I’m just the 800 lbs bruin in the room.

If we aggravated DC's injury
And DG isn’t good to go, what the hell does it matter where (or even who) we play? The Pac 10 standings are what they are and they were fair to every team in the conference. It is a raw deal for the teams that took the regular season seriously enough to finish in the top half of the standings. Also, by reducing the importance of our regular season, the Pac 10 may have ended up shooting themselves in the foot, lowering the seeds and weakening the resumes of a Washington or UCLA at the expense of a flash in the pan like SUC. ASU also evidently didn’t benefit from making the tournament final since they’re still a 6 seed. It was a net minus for the conference just to sneak a frickin 10 seed in. Job well done, Pac 10.

Didn't Luc also bruise his knee
against USC last year in the tournament?
That would make 4 injuries in our last 6 games against them.
