President Obama picks VCU to beat UCLA: Talk about a presidential diss - if you look closely, I believe you can see the letters VCU. Come on now people. First ridiculous members of MSM and now the leader of the free world? We're going to run out of bulletin board space. Go Bruins!

CA isnt a swing state
Come on people, if his naming of the Steelers owner as the ambassador to Ireland wasn’t clear enough that everything he does is political, choosing VIRGINIA CU is an obvious choice since Virginia is a traditional swing state. The campaigning never ends…and politicians wonder why no one ever believe a thing they say.
I'll cut him a break...
… he’s busy leading the country and hasn’t been keeping up with college hoops.
Plus
He’s probably bitter that we’ve defeated his brother-in-law’s team twice this year and pretty badly at that. I have no idea how I knew the coach of OSU was Obama’s brother in law.
this is worse than...
his handling of Tom Daschle’s Cabinet nomination! —-after which he admitted “I made a mistake.”
Maybe after this weekend, he can use those words again for picking against UCLA!
It's obvious he's got the wrong adviser ...
I recognize the back of that head on the left as one of the expert MSM bracketolegists. If he’d have consulted with his brother-in-law instead, surely he would be giving the PAC-10 some more love.
Seriously....
how does Andy Katz get inside the Oval Office? Can you imagine how stupid he must feel? The person before him’s probably coming in to devise a long-range foreign policy plan for the Middle East….and then…
“What are you here for?”
“I’m…uh…here to watch the president fill out a giant poster-sized NCAA bracket.”
“No, seriously, what are you here for?”
“Can you just tell them Andy Katz is here?”
“Who?”
The lopsided LA county turnouts
ought to convince POTUS UCLA deserves his support, if nothing else. He probably shuns SC even if it gets the conference championship but we all know why, don’t we ?
A lot of chalk on that bracket...
And not a whole lot of pac 10 love, interestingly enough (isn’t he related to someone in the conference?), He has Temple over ASU and UW apparently not making it through the first weekend.
Hopefully, our boys can call him out on his pick when they get invited to the White House…

Come on, bruinponcho
Virginia is not a swing state at all, not by any means. Not to get into politics here, its the heavily populated suburban communities around DC that carried the state for him. Nevertheless, I never expected midwesterner, which he is, to favor west coast teams anyway. TV stations carry more East coast regional games than other areas perhaps because of the time difference.
POTUS also nominated a federal judge from Indiana for the same reason you said about the Steelers’ owner.

Actually
Obama won Virginia by a pretty slim margin of 53 to 47% and Richmond (where VCU is located) is Virginia’s capital and went strongly for him. People in L.A. or California won’t care (other than here) that he didn’t pick UCLA, but it is a smart move of his that if VCU wins, in his next appearance in Richmond he can get the support of the locals there by stating how much he supported VCU. And if you don’t think that the Rooney (who was one of Obama’s biggest supporters and helped him win Pennsylvania) nomination wasn’t political, then you are too naive my friend.
have to concur with Htse here
having lost two rather lengthy responses to your comments on this thread to the gods of Opera Mobile, I will keep brief but to say that your conclusions re Virginia are off by a bit.
That's fine
Reasonable people can disagree on this. Hopefully we wont ever have an answer to this because we will beat VCU, but I guarantee if they do win, he will at some point mention his support for VCU in a rally in Richmond at a future rally/speech there.

fair enough
my divergence comes in re how long Va has been a swing state (never before 2006 or 08) and in the support that Richmond gave Obama – Richmond City does not really equal “richmond” (thanks to crazy Va law), which actually leans R.
Willing to cut him some slack
Besides, if he can engineer a football playoff, I may consider voting for him next time around.
How about we just forfeit the game?
Apparently, we don’t have a chance against the powerhouse that is VCU. Seriously though, this is getting pretty ridic. Even the President?!!! Dang, we are getting no love this year from anyone. :-(
In his first book
I believe he talks about growing up watching UCLA basketball games while he was at Occidental.
National security? The economy? Who cares?!?
He picked against the Bruins!!!! :-p

I blame the WWL
Should Obama be doing other things then picking a bracket? Of course. But the real instigator here is WWL who probably come up with the idea and I am sure will have a segment or two that will be heavily advertised over the next couple of weeks. I’m not usually a conspiracy theorist, but what if Katz told Obama to pick VCU over UCLA so that a big fuss would be made over it by people like us. Any other theories out there?
Seems odd that even the first round is written by hand
They couldn’t produce that poster with the matchups already included?
this is a great sign
the last time a democratic president sided against the bruins in the ncaa tournament things went pretty well for us.
Across The Face
Funny I just refilled my "bracket" for the 2012 election
He should have known better after we beat his bro-in-law’s team badly twice
the thing about this
is that he picked literally 3 first round upsets…you can find his full bracket on ESPN.com. I think VCU and Maryland (over Cal) were the only two double digit seeds he has winning.
He seems to think the Pac 10 sucks…him and the rest of the country.
Apparantly Obama really just doesn't like the Pac 10
From the predictable ESPN frontpage article on this stupid thing
Obama, though, didn’t seem to need much advice when it came time to pick. He dove right into the first round, with only a few upsets here and there, notably No. 11 VCU over No. 6 UCLA in the East Regional in Philadelphia.
“VCU, I think, has been playing strong, and I hate to say this, because my brother-in-law is in the Pac-10 right now, but the Pac-10 has been looking pretty weak this year,” Obama said. “I like that as an upset.”
He picked No. 11 Temple over No. 6 Arizona State in the South, too.
Craig Robinson, Obama’s brother-in-law, is the coach at Oregon State and led the Beavers to seven Pac-10 wins in his first season, after OSU went winless in the league a year ago. Obama picked against five of the six Pac-10 schools in the first round, selecting 4-seed Washington (over 13-seed Mississippi State) as the one league team to advance.
“I want him to have an incentive, knowing that I think the rest of the Pac-10 can be taken next year,” Obama said of Robinson’s team, which earned a berth in the College Basketball Invitational with a 13-17 record. “I think the Beavers are on their way.”
The Pac 10 has been pretty weak. So weak that they got 60% of their conference in which just so happens to be the same as it was last season when they were lauded as the best conference in America. Exit question: Hey, did anyone know that this Robinson fellow was related to Obama?
If you watch ESPN though
That’s the exact impression you would get. I’m assuming that he has more important things to do than stay up late to watch Pac 10 games. Actually he better have more important things to do.
Tydidies, he's here...
and they have directv on AF-1; being he’s on sorta wast coast time. Here for a day. I’ll bet he’ll be watching ucla v. vcu.
Biologically, Obama and Robinson are not related
Otherwise, that would mean Obama is related to Michelle and that kind of marriage is usually frowned upon. Although there have been a few presidents that have married cousins.
Same Story, different year...
I like the presidential diss (a la Bill Clinton in ’95). Talk about bulletin board material. The damn president of the USA is picking VCU over UCLA.
Anyways, are we really surprised by any of this? This was supposed to be a down year for Pac-10 football as well. The result, 5-0 in bowl games. East Coast bias will never go away. The truth is, the PAC-10 is a solid league, from top to bottom, with 10-12 NBA prospects. Granted, we didn’t have the dominant, top-10 team, but what we do have is a group of 4-5 teams which can make a decent run. It would not surprise me at all to see 3-4 PAC-10 teams in the Sweet-16.
Bottom line is I love being the underdog, and I think this is the mentality that our team needs to take going in….
Kimjongil?
That Kimjongil. He crazy. He’s turbel turbel turbel. He a knucklehead.
But hey, what do I know. I’m just the 800 lbs bruin in the room.
Doesn't Obama have more important things to do?
Little thing called the economy that’s in the toilet…
“IIIIIIIIII voted for Kodos”
/Simpsons’d
Incredible!
This country could be in trouble if his other advisors which do have a good basketball background are as good as his NCAA Bracket advisor. Most of his picks is “chalked” or higher seeded picks and his only upsets involved Pac-10 teams which has always done well in the first round.
Yeah, every team except UNC can ask that question of why didnt you pick us to win? But yeah, if one of his first round loser to win, it would be super incredible.
Hopefully, since we are such a trendy first round upset, it wont happen because everybody but us sees it happening.
Meh...
He picked Clemson over Michigan. As a result I’m voting for Kodos next time around.

According to that picture, he originally had UCLA, but changed it to VCU.
