The "Nooch" - aka Pete Carroll's Right Hand - Running For LA's City Attorney

A friend of ours passed this on to us and apparently this is not a joke.

Carmen "Nooch" Trutanich, who has made a career of springing alleged criminals and Trojan "student" athletes from jail over at South Central is running for LA's City Attorney in tomorrow's elections.

Again this is not a joke:

Carmen

If you need a little reminder of what this character is all about here is a reminder from 2005 on Pom Pom's right hand:

A few days after USC linebacker Rey Maualuga was arrested on suspicion of punching a man at a party last week, a familiar name appeared in the news.

Carmen Trutanich.

In the last year or so, the Southern California attorney has represented four Trojan football players -- tailback Hershel Dennis, former cornerback Eric Wright, former defensive lineman Manuel Wright and now Maualuga.

The stout, personable USC alumnus has worked as a prosecutor for the district attorney's office and, last summer, was hired by the city attorney to represent the Coliseum Commission in its dealings with the NFL.

As an attorney in private practice, Trutanich has no official connection to USC football, but team officials have referred players to him often enough that, last spring, the NCAA and Pacific 10 Conference investigated.

Of course as Menelaus noted the Mauluga incident had a happy ending for the Trojies thanks to the "Nooch":

On November 2, 2005, USC linebacker Rey Maualuga was arrested for investigation of misdemeanor battery after punching a man at an off-campus Halloween party (twice, without provocation).  A witness at the scene reportedly quoted Maualuga as stating "I own the police."  Carroll took no disciplinary action, and Maualuga played the following weekend against Stanford.  One USC pundit observed at the time that "discipline is Coach Carroll's number one weakness."  On November 22, 2005, the city attorney's office declined to file charges.  Maualuga was defended at the court hearing by controversial and well-connected USC alumni attorney Carmen "Nooch" Trutanich, who has a long history with USC and previously represented both Wright and Dennis.

Guess Trojies are not satisfied with just owning the police in Los Angeles. Wonder what kind of campaign contribution Carmen is getting from Pom Pom and his Trojan shills.

GO BRUINS.
