UCLA vs VCU NCAA Round 1 Video Highlights
Let's Go!
Jrue Holiday stepped up big with DC stymied with foul trouble. JH played 38 minutes scored 13 points on 5-12 shooting and handed out 6 assists against only 2 turnovers. Nice to see him with emotion.
We survived. Barely. Josh Shipp was steady and all the starters scored double figures. PAA was his normal animal self (A-cubed) absorbing punishment while sinking a perfect 5 of 5 from the line, including two clutch free throws near the end for the final Bruin points, preserving the win.

Thanks always
for putting these up. Yet another thing thats keeping me from studying for finals.
Thanks Tele
Great highlights! Although I was just wondering if someone could put together a reel full of moments when Eric Maynor did NOT get a call. Kidding of course. There were no such moments. The referees main directive seemed to be: do not allow any UCLA player to touch Eric Maynor. Also, if any UCLA player is not holding their breath in a 5 foot radius around Eric Maynor, that UCLA player shall be charged with a personal foul. Finally, it is forbidden for any UCLA player, coach, or dance team member to make direct eye contact with Eric Maynor. Conversely, Eric Maynor may shove off with his off arm if he feels a UCLA player is guarding him too closely. Eric Maynor can do no wrong. Eric Maynor can walk on water.
Do not anger Eric Maynor.
Oh UCLA you sweet bitch, you've BRUINed me for anything else.
Or heck, Larry Sanders
Larry Sanders has a 7’7" wingspan.
He has a 7’7" wingspan! HE’S A BLOCKING MACHINE!
Look at Larry Sanders affect all those layups! He’s such a presence!
Larry Sanders has 4 fouls.
Larry Sanders has 5 fouls. Larry Sanders has six fouls.
What? You’re only allowed 5 in the college game? He didn’t foul out? Are you sure? I saw a lot more…
Or how about…
Nikola Dragovic is in the lane and TAKES THE CHARGE! Wait, no he’s called for a block. Hrm he looked pretty set. Oh that’s the glorious “FILL IN NAME HERE” from “FILL IN SCHOOL HERE” driving down the lane taking no prisoners! Europeans can’t possibly take charges!

PAA did absorb some punishment
but I’ve never seen anyone “freight-train’d” the way Aboya did to that poor guy after an Aboya steal in the first half.
No Kidding :)
Folks, if PAA is coming at the basket with the ball like that, stepping in will lead to pain. It just will.

Now that's how you hedge
I keep watching Josh Shipp’s hedge in the last few seconds of the game, and that’s a text book hedge. Hopefully our team sees the tape.
No hedging by bumping into the guy to give him a foul. Just a quick hedge to get the guy out of his easy path, then quickly rotating back to your defender. Just enough to let his guard get back on him.
I Keep Thinking...
Josh Shipp’s poise and timing is so critical to this team. Those countless infinitesimal things he does at precisely the right moment add up to, well, wins.

Great Call on JS hedge
I was thinking the same thing – that was a perfect hedge, enough to throw Maynor off course and make him uncomfortable. That couple with DC solid D, staying on the ground and not biting on the pump fake (you know the refs would have called a foul if DC went into the air with even minimal contact) and Maynor had no chance of scoring that hoop.
Was that Billy Packer, the fool who said I thought that shot was going in – it was clearly short as he was fading away, barely drwing iron.
I agree the refs were terrible – any touch on Maynor instant foul. Maynor at the end pushing off on DC to try and free himself up and throwing DC off balance, of course, no foul.
