Holiday "leaning" towards coming back
From Dohn:
"I talked to UCLA freshman guard Jrue Holiday after the game, and he said right now he is leaning toward coming back."
With Holiday back our team will be MUCH better. He's been a little shaky at times this year but his potential is tremendous, and we will definitely benefit from his presence. I would say he has better athletic potential and better court vision than Collison (not that Collison wasn't great for us).

We've got a fanshot down there
Remember: Afflalo said the same thing…then he declared for the draft. Now, AA was a junior and Jrue is a freshman, and it’s true that what he did say is better than “i’ll decide later” or “i have to sort this out” or any other similar non-declaration, but it’s still hard to completely trust what he’s saying while the wound is still raw.

While that is good news
I’m fairly surprised Dohn would pop that question on him right after his first tourney loss

JH
I’m just amazed that JH is “leaning” toward coming back….He at least needs another 2 years on CBH…Maybe JA should consider going into the draft…for that matter, have the whole freshman class make themselves available….ADVICE: just stay in school, learn a few things (like defense and scoring) and then in a couple years start leaning…….

How can you say he needs at least another 2 years?
Do you remember how many times RW looked shaky as a freshman (remember the WVU disaster when DC was injured?).
And then look what happened, he exploded during his second year. I would be surprised if JH didn’t do the same thing, especially since I think he will feel a bit more natural playing the point.

Yeah, you can't really say that he needs two more years
He may need two more years, but one could do it. To say he needs another year is fair, but players make their biggest improvement between their freshman and sophomore year and Jrue can take a huge step forward if he comes back next year. He may be ready after next year, but if he does go, you can’t really blame him. He really should have never step foot on campus. Again, blame lays in the system. I still favor baseball’s rule. You can go pro after high school, but if you go to college then you’re there for 3 years.

Agreed
I never at any point in the season thought to myself: “Wow, Holiday is ready for the NBA”. Not even close.
The best freshman guard in the conference was Isaiah Thomas of UW. Hands down. Now if Jrue comes out and Isaiah stays, something is wrong here.

Thomas Was Playing In Position
Jrue was not.
I’m not saying that justifies Jrue leaving, but we need to respect that. The same way we need really respect that PAA played out of position — he was not a true center.
Who knows what happens with players in the NBA when they get to play their best position.

Jrue
Jrue staying will help us A LOT next year, i look for him to have a breakout year, like DC did his 2nd year, and RW.
Go Bruins!

Let's be careful
about making too much out of a post game statement after a tourney loss. I am not going to count JH as part of next year’s squad until we get a confirmed report re. next year.

Respecting JH
It’s not for us to say what JH “needs”. In many ways that is condescending and denigrates his talents.
It is up to JH, his family, CBH, his advisors and the NBA to say what he needs.
JH gave us a great year. I will not go into the “defense” of JH again. But, in this tournament, we saw what he could do on the point and on the leadership side — and he was strong. And, all year we’ve seen what a fine young man he is — so unlike some of the players who come to college to spend a year and leave.
As Nestor convinced me long ago, the NBA drafts potential. JH’s potential is clear — both in skill and character.
I hope he stays, not so much for us as for him. UCLA is an incredible school and I hope he chooses to get the most from this very special time of his life. This from a Geezer who looks back 40 years to his years on campus with great fondness and pride. And, from a Bruin who hates the one-and-done syndrome.

PS. One of my favorite moments in the tournament was, yesterday, right after JH scored on a break away and started back down towards his ‘mates and appeared to say "Let’s go." In that moment I saw RW. JH will be an incredible success whatever his choice.
