those SUCers have such a great marketing dept.

Star-divide

Was just listening to AM 710 and i know they broadcast every suc game, but i just heard a pathetic promo pimping their basketball team... essentially it said:

"we're really proud of suc basketball for making it to the second round of the ncaa tournament because it sure beats going to the NIT!  congratulations and way to go pac-10 champions."

um...hello?!?  isn't this the same media people that blasted UCLA for running newspaper ads about monopolies?  Isn't this the equivalent of us running an ad saying "congratulations to ucla on getting beat down by a mountain west team in the las vegas bowl because it sure beats having Karl Dorrell as your coach."

so many things stupidly wrong with that promo it made my brain hurt.  if you head over to usctrojans.com you'll also find that they're selling t-shirts commemorating their pac-10 tourney championship.

They have no problems trampling on others' acheivements

They claim a football title that rightfully belongs to LSU, so why not a basketball title that belongs to UW?

exactly

i half expect someone from congress to present a bill celebrating their great achievement of winning four games in a row and “stealing” a recruit we never wanted.

Nobody at SC

gives a rat’s ass about basketball. It’s football and that’s it over there.

The Galen Center is over half empty at nearly every game. I’m sure they can’t even pay the students and other members of the Toejam “family” to attend home games.

Maybe they will hoist a banner proclaiming themselves Pac 10 Tournament Champs.

Pathetic.

It's amazing

In the 90’s, when their football team sucked, they wouldn’t come out and tell everyone how great their school is. Now that their football team is good, they try to convince everyone that their community college is also good. They relate everything to football. It’s pretty simple: when their football team wins, people donate money (rich people donate lots of money), which jacks up their US News ranking since for some stupid reason that is one of their measures. That is why Cheatey Petey is so revered over there.

But hey, what do I know. I’m just the 800 lbs bruin in the room.

lol

I am still waiting for George Raveling and Harold Miner to “close the gap” with UCLA basketball.

Ah yes, baby Jordan

Sure, he terrorized UCLA in 1992…but after that? What, one year in the NBA? I think he won the slam dunk contest…then he suddenly remembered that he’s just a trOJan basketball player.

But hey, what do I know. I’m just the 800 lbs bruin in the room.

Washington was the Pac 10 champion this year

SUC came in 6th.

SUC won three games in a row to be Pac 10 tournament champions.

"when you've seen how big the world is, how can you make due with this?"

Calling themselves Pac-10 champs

is like them calling themselves a 2-time national champion. They won one title. The other one LSU won. A bunch of media people “claiming” you’re number 1 doesn’t mean you’re the champ.

Next thing you know...

They’ll start referring to them as “student-athletes” from an “academic school”.

Nah - can't happen

if it’s in the context of an advertisement, it would clearly be misleading and in violation of Business & Professions Code section 17200 or whatever the unfair advertising law is. And justsc would never violate the law.
