CRN To Visit U.S. Troops
From the official site:
UCLA head football coach Rick Neuheisel is one of six current or former college head coaches who will travel to the Middle East to visit U.S. troops this spring on the second annual Under Armour Coaches Tour.
The tour, which will meet and greet American military personnel in Afghanistan, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, is scheduled to depart McConnell Air Force Base in Wichita, KS, on May 28 and return to the United States on June 4.
"This is a chance to thank our men and women in those parts of the world who are fighting for freedom," said Neuheisel. "I am excited about the opportunity to spend time with them."
Texas coach Mack Brown, Ohio State's Jim Tressel, Troy Calhoun of Air Force, Houston Nutt of Mississippi and former Auburn coach Tommy Tuberville are also will travel on the tour.
The trip is coordinated through Armed Forces Entertainment, a Department of Defense agency, and Morale Entertainment.
Of course this is a great cause. It doesn't hurt the fact that traveling with coaches such as Brown, Trassell, Nutt and Tuberville (who is a big time coach IMO) will only help CRN further raise the profile of the UCLA football program.
GO BRUINS.

Nice press Rick!
Imagine Dorrell being in on something like this… never would have been asked.
Bruin-4-Life!!!
Actually, I can
You don’t have to be a great coach to do something like this, just a good person.
I always felt that CTS was a good person not doing well.
And, I’m sure CRN is doing this more because it is a good thing to do than because it makes him look good.
sjh
I think you're being incredibly kind, sjh
That part of history is fading from my memory, and I want to keep it that way so I won’t stir the pot. I just remember that there were plenty of character issues that were associated with the blank period between Coach Toledo and Coach Neuheisel. But I agree that from what I know of Coach Neuheisel, he would have made the trip even if there were no publicity associated with it at all. I think he’s a Mensch.
Does this guy ever get tired?
I mean he has to sleep at some point, right? This guy’s energy is unreal…
Heard about this on the news last night
Only because Tuberville is going and because he got himself into a little controversy there last year. He joined the troops in some flag football, and the guys started carrying on their shoulders (I’m guessing Auburn fans). Someone asked him to flash seven fingers, and he did (Auburn had beaten Alabama six straight times). Of course, someone snapped a picture and it was in the Alabama media before you knew it (Alabama then went on to win 36-0 this year).
Good for CRN. It’s nice to hear his name mentioned with these other coaches, even if it is only for charity.
Just goes to show there's more to CRN than just football.
A coach is someone who can give correction without causing resentment. John Wooden
Building relations
At the very least CRN can build relationships with other coaches so when new openings come up on his staff, he can get recommendations from other prominent coaches instead of just going to the nearest pound to pick up a stray poodle like Pom Pom.
