Center Court: Ben Ball (Oregon) Senior Day Open Thread
Oregon Ducks at UCLA Bruins, Mar 7, 2009 12:30 PM PST
So ready or not here we go. We are going to get started early today.
I don't have much to add to what we have been saying and writing honoring our three seniors since the end of the last game. Time to close out another glorious chapter of these three Ben Ball warriors with their last Pauley game thread:

Yep those were images from 05-06 season, which also happened to be the first year of BN. BTW today you might want to use "wide" setting (you can select the option from the top of our left hand column) to view the pics for this game thread.
As I mentioned in our game thread since this game is being broadcast on ABC regional lot of us are not going to get to watch it. So please consider posting play by play, commentaries, as much as you can for rest of the BNers outside California.
The tipoff is scheduled for 12:30 pm PST. You can track it via the official site. And as always if you are watching the game, share your instant thoughts/commentary here in our game thread.
Fire away.
GO BRUINS.

espn360.com is streaming the game
As a person who’s spent most of this season outside of SoCal, I’ve found that even without having cable or satellite television, I’ve been able to find a live video stream of almost every game. This time, those outside of the regional coverage can legally watch it online as long as your ISP carries the service.
And of course there’s always justin.tv, which is more hit-or-miss but has made it possible for me to see the season.
Just don’t want anyone to not be able to see the game when they could be watching…
ESPN Full Court Package
If you’re a subscriber, and you’re not getting the UCLA game on your local ABC feed, you’ll be able to see it on one of the Full Court channels. On DirecTV, it’ll be channel 723. (At least in NYC it is.)

Somewhat OT; the NCAA has handed down sanctions on FSU for a 2006-07 cheating scandal
In addition 4 years of NCAA probation and scholarship reductions over the next 3 years, the football likely willvacate all of its wins from 2006 and 2007.
While this would mean that the Bruins’ Emerald Bowl performance from 2006 would vanish from the record books, sadly the ‘music’ of Seminole Country will still haunt my dreams.
Cal v. ASU
Cal looks like crap near the end of the 1st half – teams in the pac this year can look like world beaters in one game and terrible the next – maybe it’s a testament to the parity in the conference or maybe it’s in every conference and I just notice it cause that’s my region….
They've missed a lot of wide open 3s
uncharacteristic, as they have a few sharpshooters

Bless my Slingbox
I’m sitting in a gym in College Station, Texas.
Jen’s WinterGuard has just performed and we will wait most of the day for the competition to end and for her scores.
I’ll watch the game on my Slingbox and comment here — so long as my battery lasts.
Please, if you are in Pauley, gives us reports on the ceremonies.
With you all electronically.

10 minutes on the countdown clock
The place is more packed than it usually is and there’s a definite buzz in the arena. Only 3 of the 6 upper level student sections are full.

The senior day festivities are over
PAA, DC and JS were joined by Jamie Diefenbach and a student manager. Everyone got loud applauses and the two louder cheers came for a comment about PAA’s hustle and that Diefenbach was on the AD’s Honor Roll seven times.

In one sense
I feel sorry for him.
His ongoing bitterness is actually a sign of how hurt by the way his UCLA years ended. It’s kinda like how I could be really bitter about ex-girlfriends – until I found someone better and moved on, at which point the bitterness went away and I was over it. Thankfully, I have an awesome wife.
Sadly for Lavin, there are no “girlfriends” to look forward to in his basketball life.

ESPN360 Blackout Question
If my ESPN360 won’t show the Bruins game, is this because local ABC is carrying the game in my region?
If so, I would love to hear of a live feed (justin.tv, anywhere else) if anyone finds one.
Nice block
Drago, DC is wearing his emotion on his sleeve early
I really like
DC when he’s more emotional. And the team feeds off it, too.
greg in denver - UCLA guy for life
I completely agree...
he’s very aggressive early on….must be really hitting him (last game in pauley)
JH should have taking that layup...
he’s still looking tentative, at least early on
Any streams online?
No 360, no justin.tv.
Although, me not seeing the game has been excellent karma.

I've looked all over - but no luck finding a feed. Fingers
crossed some good soul streams it soon! My ppv wanted to charge me around $130 for the game!! Must be the complete sports package from ESPN.

The Lizard
Just logged on and saw that nobody mentioned the flashbacks to Lav’s Senior Days, highlights of Ryan Flowers and Moose Bailey along with the quote “we neede to win that game just to make the Pac 10 Tournament”
The defense is playing really poorly
Oregon nearly on pace for 100 pts.
per ESPN stats
OU shooting 55, and 57 on 3’s.
Gotta shut that down, D.

Final from Tempe: ASU 83, Cal 66
In a game with no significance re. seeding: Cal holds the tiebreaker over ASU – sweep of UW, or better record against the 5th place team(s).
UCLA 42-37 now
Let’s lock down the last two minutes, go into the half with a 10 point lead!
you know, it is. Deny the lay up on the poor ft shooter
drago actually does a fair amount of this and doesn’t always get much credit.
I am starting to see what Howland has witnessed
every day during practice. He is really taking off and showing us the player we thought he would be before the slew of injuries held him down.

For those of you watching
How annoying is Lavin? Who wants to hear him criticize UCLA’s D?
as annoying as he always has been
I got my new TV hooked up just in time for this game, and then almost puked when I saw he was commentating today.
Hi, Guys..
Of course, I can’t get the game anywhere, and I’m missing all of the farewell to our seniors…I’ve cruised through the thread, thanks for the best commentary available.
(I’m making a German chocolate cake.)
Major love to our three seniors. I so wish I could be there.
Love My Bruins
Lavin...
Ducks quackin’ from all angles… These ducks can fly.
That’s simply HORRIBLE. (But expected, I suppose).
Lavin Math
Since when does 10 of 19 = 47%?
Got to shut these guys down
and close the door early in 2H, so we can take our seniors out to an ovation they deserve. Goal should be allowing Oregon to 20 points in 2H.
Josh dunks/layups
He seems to not be able to make up his mind when he goes up for point blank dunks at times. I think he is tempted to throw it down everytime (to make a statement) and sometimes the physical momentum isn’t there. Seen that happen to him more than a couple times this year.
Please don't let this team hang around
sloppy play and a couple of possessions
To quote KGB:
Hanging around, hanging around. Kid’s got alligator blood. Can’t get rid of him.
All jokes aside, we need to close the door on these guys!
there's just some specific things he doesn't do well
and he was slow on that last shot by wiley – lucky he missed
Josh
is playing really well at the end of the season. Very big difference from some of the shooting slumps at the end of the last couple seasons. That may play big in the post season

Lizard Wit
That announcer who used to be on our university payroll is outdoing himself today. What is he even talking about?
watching Jrue
does some amazing things – but his game just isn’t “tight”. he fouled the 3 pt shooter, for example
After we pad this lead
It’s almost time to become a Cougar fan. Who doesn’t love a good Cougar once in a while??
If he is not let go after this season, he never will be.
The rumors that I have heard surrounding Few is that Oregon is his dream job, the possible availability of which has been a key factor in staying at Gonzaga as long as he has. Again, simply rumor.
Lavin: "Don't want to overcoach a team"
Hey Stevie – did you ever even “COACH” a team?
Wow, tearingup on a bus full of high school kids -- those guys are the best!
now just need DC in and out
sjh
Very well
4th out of 13
3rd would have been a trophy’
They’ve gone to the top division this year — most novice teams wait 4 years, they went in their second.
Very Proud Papa here.
Thanks for asking.
sjh
These announcers suck
They’re in love with X-factors.
And now the refs start taking over
Klay Thompson called for getting all ball.
They didn't even mention it after he went to the bench
I hope that means it’s not major.
15-11 UW
WSU not playing as well as they played us
but with this being a rivalry game — I still think they will get it done
sjh
DC didn't re-enter the game and go right back out
because he had a huge ice wrap on his tail bone. After the game in a radio interview he said it was bruised and a little sore, but he’d be ready to go on Thursday.
