The Standards new standard bearer
According to ESPN, Tim Floyd is going to be the next head coach of Arizona.
This really seems like an odd hire since Floyd is an intraconference coach which is awkward (just ask Stanford) and Timmey has done a pretty good job building up USC whereas Arizona will be rebuilding for at least 2 or 3 years. The only thing that I can think of is that SC is under NCAA investigation and Floyd leaving would quiet that down or at least save himself.
One other thing, Renardo Sidney never actually signed with SC, so it would be interesting to see what happens with him (as well as DeRozan, Gibson, Hackett) if this is true.

Just saw it on the WWL too
Insane
To me, this is a lateral, maybe downward move
$C has:
1) Brand new facilities
2) Solid incoming recruits
3) Location
4) Lax admission standards
5) All the money in the world to pay Timmeh whatever he would want
6) A fanbase that really doesn’t care about championships nor expects anything
Trading those in for “tradition” seems to be kind of ridiculous.

Nobody at SC cares about basketball
Some coaches prefer passion and attention. And don’t overestimate Zona’s fanbase. They are an extremely deluded, loyal fanbase, and they won’t make life difficult for Floyd.
Besides, the four or five people who notice basketball at SC expect that sport to do as well as football, and had Floyd on the hot seat anyway.

Zona buying recruits
It actually makes sense now that I think about it. Zona’s cupboard is bare as they haven’t recruited for about 3 years now. However, Floyd can bring in talent with him in Soloman Hill and Renardo Sidney. Put them with Nic Wise and suddently Arizona is more in the 6-8 range next year instead of 10th. Still, if the Standard was trying to “remain” as one of the “elite programs” in the country, Floyd is a pretty weak hire.

Furthermore
At Arizona he won’t be constantly compared to UCLA anymore. There is still somewhat of a basketball rivalry there, but not the constant daily comparison to UCLA. And let’s face it, the gap never got close to closing…
But hey, what do I know. I’m just the 800 lbs bruin in the room.
