Pete Carroll's Guide to Success
Bumped. Go Bruins. - M
Pete Carroll is eager to share his wisdom with you. He believes that the "philosophy" behind the trOJies' success in football can translate into the business world, so he is writing a book to share his thoughts. Here is a sampling of the various chapters:
- I. Character: always have one by your side
- II. Don't fight the law, OWN it!
- III. Regulations are for losers!
- IV. Be a Humanitarian: stand behind your criminal star
- V. Loyalty: the gift that you should keep on taking
- VI. A poodle a day keeps the media away
The centerpiece of the book will be, of course, Petey's Pyramid of Suck-cess:
It's already gotten pretty good reviews apparently, and there will be special sections written by guest writers:
- "Pete uses creativity in his football schemes, and it is an essential trait in the business world as well." Kenneth Lay, ex-CEO of Enron
- "When Pete is winning football games, he keeps his foot on the gas pedal. In finance, you must strike when the iron it hot." Richard Fuld, ex-Chairman of Lehman Brothers
- "Pete is a genius at recruiting talent, which is not much different than attracting capital." Bernie Madoff, ex-Chairman of Bernard L. Madoff Investment Securities LLC
- "Pete knows how to get the best from you and is never shy about letting you take credit for his ideas." Michael Michaels, sports agent
Full Disclosure for Cheatey Petey's Comically Challenged Lawyers: this is a joke. Carroll writing a business book, however, is not.
This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of BruinsNation's (BN) editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of BN's editors.

I'm sure Pete
will hire the best ghost writers in the business. That’s how the best books are written isn’t it?

The book is titled "How to Always Win"
Last night on PTI, Tony Kornheiser said, “How about always losing one of your Pac-10 road games.” LOL!

If you ever want to build up the pyramid
here’s another suggestion:
“Publicly humiliate players that leave the program early”
Nicely done.

hoarding all the talent...
heard about Mitch Mustain on PMS radio here, they were talking about Chetey being partly responsible for this kid’s messed up career. He was a starter and a winner at another college already but was lured by Chetey to come to USC, even though Chetey should have known that Mustain wasn’t going to fit into their offense. Mustain is now listed as a 3rd string QB…he was Gatorade Player of the Year but Coach SUCster decided why not keep him on our bench as a 2nd and 3rd string rather than letting him start at any other program…
messed up a kid’s football career just to preserve the SUC criminal program…sad…

It's hard for me to feel sorry for anyone like Mustain
He wasn’t some naive kid from Nowhere USA. He was a highly recruited, sophisticated guy. He cannot possibly have misunderstood what he was letting himself in for at justsc. Anyone who voluntarilly jumps into a festering pile of dung can’t expect to be believed when he says that he didn’t think it would stink. (There are tons of better figures of speech out there, but I’m tired and can’t think of any. And I’m not going to waste my waning mental powers on justsc’s third string quarterback.)

No sympathy for Mustain
In a way, I feel that he is getting exactly what he had coming to him based upon his brief time @ Arkansas. As much as I would love to place the blame on Chetey, he comes out fairly clean on this one (for once).

The book begins with Pete's credo for life...
“Success is peace of mind knowing that you did something very very wrong and got away with it.”

how much of this is really true?
none of it. i hate the trojans as much as anybody else, but this site prides itself over respect, humility, and pride. there are so many legitimate ways to roll over that pathetic area of ground they call a university downtown, so why make stuff up. Everyone is all up in arms when people come onto this site and bash the bruins… and trust me, i don’t like them either. However, if we pride ourselves with being credible, we shouldn’t be bashing on anyone over what they do off the field. Let’s let the sports tell the story. To me, it feels like we are just grasping for air in the football rivalry over usc. let’s just enjoy the ride of our bruins, and when neuheisel brings our team back to prominence, then we can talk some trash. As much as i dislike usc, pete carrol has done a fantastic job with their football program, and we shouldn’t be bashing his laurels (ie a book contract) just for the sake of bashing.

You're absolutely right, prodigeo
We should salute Cheatie Petie, I mean Coach Carroll the Humanitarian, because his life has been a model of everything that’s good and virtuous, and the idea that he would write a book is totally legitimate and laudable. Sure, there are hints that he has cheated and that the program is infected with thuggery from top to bottom, but I suppose there never has been a shred of evidence to support those allegations. Reggie bu$h? I don’t think he actually ever went to justsc.
So we shouldn’t ridicule Cheatie Petie — well, there I went again — about writing a book. I think we should all go buy it. I understand the title is “If I Did It.”

Thanks for your comment
And you are?
This is your first comment on BN. You contribute nothing, and yet come to criticize me for a piece of satire on our hated rival who, by all accounts, runs a less than innocent program. So please save your lectures. Maybe that disclosure at the end should have been aimed at you.
I don’t talk trash and I don’t “bash” anyone in my post. It’s comedy, a la Daily Show, but maybe it’s way over your head. And finally, it is pretty tame and restrained compared to the dickwad trOJies who wear t-shirts that say “My maid went to UCLA”. So take a chill pill.
But hey, what do I know. I’m just the 800 lbs bruin in the room.

You must be right, none of it could be true...
Check out Menelaus’ list of scandals at U. of Sports Criminals, not a single one of which you find has a droplet of documentation in police reports. Check out the NCAA’s ongoing probes, which have been initiated precisely because there is not an iota of evidence. Check out the Bush lawsuit, of which every court filing must be perjured.
There is an old saw, “Where there is smoke, there must be fire.” Well the carbon footprint of the Trojan scandals is certainly not helping the Greenland ice cap.

After all, we all know the direction where Pete’s lovely philosophies end up getting flushed towards…

NFL draft an hour away
and mock drafts have my Chargers drafting Thugaluga. I don’t know what to think. I want to believe that he’ll fit right away and start but it’s tough to think that trojan thuggery will be in my team for years to come.
