Dave Libbey Retires!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I saw this on the BRO message board first.
Libbey retires from officiatingPosted by Bob Condotta
So who knew we all were seeing some college basketball officiating history when the Huskies beat Mississippi State in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
Unknown to everyone at the time was that it turned out to be the last game worked by Dave Libbey, the official everyone seemed to love to hate.
David LIbbey was, IMO, the worst official I ever saw.
Just so you know, I'm not someone who complains about officiating. I argue with those that do. To me, officiating is just part of the game and bad officiating is part of the game.
But Dave Libbey wasn't just a bad official. He was a bad official who seemed to go out of his way to make sure the spotlight was on him when the game was on the line. An official with an ego is the worst thing in the world.
Good effin' riddance.
(The above story links to this story detailing some of the controversy about Libbey.)
As an aside, it's not often that the Pac 10 bloggers on this network agree about things. But it wouldn't surprise me at all to see similarly joyous posts about this news all around the network. Libbey was that bad.
This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of BruinsNation's (BN) editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of BN's editors.

GTFO Libbey!
The trick is to not let demonstrative drama queen refs in in the first place.

Too little too late
Prolly cost us at least one Pac-10 championship before he left.
The Steve Lavin of college refs.

Please, Nestor
No one deserves to be called such a horrible name, whether it’s true or not. There really is no excuse for such language. This is a family oriented forum, after all.

Libbey was a symptom, not the problem
We have SPTR’s because the conference does not select and train them carefully.
Until the conference comes to grip with the problem, there will always be SPTR’s — some will be drama queens and some just inept — who will have a negative impact on all games.

Libby was an "Impact" ref
He generally was quiet early in a contest but would always seem to make a call towards the end that would have an impact on the final outcome. He had an addiction for making sure he was involved somehow in the final result of the game. Sometimes it favored us, sometimes not. I personally had the feeling that more times than not it favored us. JMO. And despite the fact that I agree with everyone that refs shouldn’t be like this, in a strange sort of way, I will miss him.

Good riddance to bad rubbish!
Dave Libbey is definitely in the Hall of Shame of SPTR’s. For me, Charlie Range will likely always hold the title of worst Pac 10 ref, but Libbey is right up there. Geezers might also recall such rogues as Lou Soriano, Jack Ditty (“Ditty is sh#tty”), Mel Ross, Richie Ballesteros, Terry Christman and Bob Garibaldi (never wanted him in a game in the Bay Area, which is where he was from). Focusing on the current motley crew, Ruben Ramos is Public Enemy #1 in my mind right now due to his horrendous homer call against Collison that might have cost us the ASU game. Others who stink include Mark Reischling and Bill Kennedy. Reischling’s retirement is also long overdue. Part of the problem is that refereeing seems to be the quintessential old boys network and the old guys just keep hanging around. Seniority is viewed as the equivalence of quality.
