Child of celebrity attends SUC?
No surprise. That’s where all sorts of people whose main accomplishment was being born go.
Looks like Arnold is as good at talking about football as he is at running a state.

Ugh
This almost ruined my Sunday morning. Arnold needs to work on his joke-telling skills and timing, among many other things. Maybe if we paid the rent of certain players’ family members, we would have had a better team. Just sayin.’ It couldn’t hurt.
As long as the Lakers win today and the team led by Scalabrine loses, all is forgiven. :)

Someone pointed out to me the other day
that Brian Scalibrine is the shining star of USC basketball right now.

Shining Star is right
Scalabrine had 2 huge points, 2 boards and 4 fouls today.
And Pruitt actually “played” 3 minutes! I think he has about 10 "DNP"s in the playoffs.
Ding dong, the witch is dead: Boston gets demolished by 19 on their home court in a Game 7 and the Lakers win by 19 on their home court.

Must be the roids
Dude has been here 30 plus years and he still sounds like an SS guard working at Auswitch.

Board of Regents
Too bad he doesn’t have a little more respect for the university he sits on the Board of Regents for; disgusting, really.

Wow.
All I can think of is, “Fuck you, Arnold.”
What a lame-assed thing for the Governer of California to say.

We'll have the last laugh
when the u$c football team gets banned from postseason play, UCLA becomes the true darling of LA football, and Aahnold gets voted out of office after ruining the state.
But hey, what do I know. I’m just the 800 lbs bruin in the room.

Strange that
USC would allow a former steroid user to speak at its graduation.

Just a Quick Glance...
I had to look at this, because something about the common concept that USC has absolutely dominated this sport for all time doesn’t jibe for me.
UCLA has won the Pac-10 title outright 17 times since 1927, (disregarding five shared titles.)
USC has won it outright 26 times, (shared it 10 times)…
This, statistically, does not seem that overwhelmingly significant of a difference to me, over 82 years. Nine seasons.
USC isn’t even in the top five in the nation by number of wins, winning percentage, or championships won. (I’m leaving polls out of this mini-“analysis,” too.)
(I am neither a statistician nor a mathematician, so….I could be way off here.)
So the joke actually has no factual basis, which is the only thing that makes jokes like that “funny,” in the first place.
Just thinking out loud, sorry folks.

Using some elementary stats (that I took a midterm on this morning...)
It depends on the level of significance you’re looking at. If we assume that the proportion of titles is the same, then there’s about a 5% chance that the observed difference in titles would occur if titles were assigned randomly. If we include the shared titles, that drops to about 1%.
by jaffa on May 20, 2009 4:22 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
The problem with using statistics
is that it’s hard to say exactly how to deal with the difference between shared outright titles. While there have been a certain number of years of play, there have been less outright championships. If you add in shared championships, you end up well over the number of years.
by SuperBruinMan on May 21, 2009 4:45 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
That's Why
I just disregarded all shared championships. I couldn’t see the logic in more championships than actual seasons played. I guess you could convert the whole thing to a point system, and use 1.0 for an outright win, .5 for a two-way tie and .33 for a three-way tie, (I think there was one of those). At least three of those shared titles—1959, 1987 and 1993—would be a wash for the purposes of this discussion, because UCLA and USC both shared in the title.
My initial gut feeling was that there just wasn’t that impressive of a difference between the two teams over time, and I think I was generally right about that. Twenty-six just isn’t tremendously more than 17, and 36 really isn’t crazily more than 22. (That’s not very mathematical, I know.)
This is pretty OT at this point, I’m sorry.
