Phil Steele, known for his accurate preseason predictions, is guessing UCLA will finish third in the PAC-10 in 2009. Third is the highest I've seen any publication put UCLA at so far.

I should note

that this is for football.

That's pretty high

and probably out of our range. Not sure how accurate his reputation will be after this

His Pac-10 predictions are kinda wacky

as are some of the other conferences…but he does tend to be more accurate, so let’s see what happens!

But hey, what do I know. I’m just the 800 lbs bruin in the room.

Oregon

he put in 6th place, and I just don’t see that happening, but I don’t see UCLA finishing 6th either like a couple of the other publications have us.

So you guys just think Steele is relentlessly optimistic wrt UCLA?

I really like Oregon this year and definitely don't think we'll finish 3rd

I think Oregon will compete for the Pac-10 title and won’t finish below 2nd, while we’re going to in 7 games and finish 5th or 6th.

Agree

If Oregon beats U$C, which is doable since it’s at Oregon, they could win the Pac-10. It will hinge on their defense.

I’ve got us at 7-4, with the game at Stanford being a 50/50…we’d finish right around 5th or 6th.

But hey, what do I know. I’m just the 800 lbs bruin in the room.

might as well add my two cents

based only on average recruiting rankings, SUC is still head and shoulders about everyone, followed by Kal. However, guess who is third? UCLA.

However, its a close third with UCLA, ASU, Oregon kinda bunched together.

I don’t think 3rd is impossible. Here is how I see it:

1) Kal- just have a feeling SUC is going to struggle a bit and Kal will finally pull it together
2) SUC- Falls a step behind and average position coaching starts to show.
3) OSU- Riley always does a lot with a little, and has a pretty good squad
4) UCLA- Defense strong all season and Offense gels at the end
5) Oregon- Allow-a-loti. Need i say more?

"when you've seen how big the world is, how can you make due with this?"
