First here is KL talking up Coach Howland to HoopsWorld (emphasis added):
UCLA has had several great perimeter defenders in recent years (Westbrook and Arron Afflalo) and another one (Collison) is coming out this year. Drafting a Howland player is a good bet if you're looking for defensive fundamentals.
"That's what he preaches," former Bruin Kevin Love said at last week's NBA Draft Lottery. "He says defense wins championships… He's great at teaching that. It's a big sell coming out of college. As for me, I still have a lot of work to do on the defensive side, but he certainly helped me out in that regard."
Interestingly the article is headlined by Holiday hype and the usual nonsense about Howland's style stifling his much hyped "potential".
Going back to KL, can't believe we all missed this. He dropped the "passion bucket" reference on national tv while representing his Timberwolves in the NBA draft lottery:
It happens around the 7:50 mark of the video.
KL might have been a "one and done" in Howlandwood but he represents the blue and gold like a four year player. It is fun to watch. He makes it easy to root for him and stay emotionally invested in him as a Ben Ball warrior.
When he came to Westwood we knew he was going to be a "once in a generation" talent. The way he handles himself and repesents UCLA he seems to have that Bill Waltonesque once in generation Bruin presence off the court as well.
GO BRUINS.
