You know you seem dirty if you scare away Tim Floyd

I just saw that
Thanks for getting it posted. I liked the way they kept using the word “even” before justsc. “Even sc” wouldn’t touch Sidney.
My one bone to pick with the article is the semi-slam on Starkville Sure, the name “Starkville” sounds like it should be associated with Texas Chain Saw Massacres, but I’ve never been there and know nothing about the town. On the other hand, I have been to justsc. I would much rather live in Starkville with all its chain saws and Jason and Freddy and all that than live anywhere around justsc.
Saw that earlier
Glad you posted it.. That line above is my new favorite catch-phrase.
One thing that could have been clarified was the recruitment process on that kid. As I understand it, UCLA only briefly considered him before quickly deciding he was bad news. SUC, on the other hand, proudly announced him as a “commit” until connections were made to the Mayo and Bush scandals.
I guess he demanded more money than Garrett and Floyd were willing to pay him.
Formerly UCLA Class of 86
In other news, Wall commits to USC...
.. or commits a crime. But I repeat myself.

Ha ha ha.
Favorite line:
In other words, even USC, a school that took in O.J. Mayo sight unseen and whose football program has been under investigation for what seems like the last five years thought Renardo Sidney’s father was too much of a loose cannon
From the same yahoo article. Emphasis in italics is mine.
A coach is someone who can give correction without causing resentment. John Wooden
I read the LAT article that they cited yesterday
and first of all, I do not recommend doing the same to anyone here. The article was full of “sources close to the program” for both $C and UCLA, and frankly I didn’t buy a word of what they said, nor to I believe that the UCLA sources were anything more than the guy who replaces the water cooler. There was a lot of talk about how both coaching staffs really wanted to sign Sidney, but their decisions were overruled by higher-ups.
This bothers me, because I do not believe for a second that the decision to drop Sidney’s recruitment was not Howland’s decision. Floyd has a history of signing questionable recruits so I buy that someone in the AD there decided to end things, but it seemed the Times resorted to lazy journalism by taking $C’s explanation and assuming it true for UCLA as well. Also, they made it seem as if Sidney had all but signed with UCLA, which as we have said here on BN is anything by false.
So for those of you who are new here to BN, be sure take these reports that link Renardo Sidney to UCLA with a HUGE grain of salt
Yeah ... read the article
Thought it was pretty amusing as well. I think Howland and his staff did inquire into Sidney. However, when they were informed about the baggage around him through our compliance officials they backed off like they should have.
In comparsion, what I find really funny is how Southern Cal is trying to show they are a clean program by backing off Sideny. Why did they offer the kid a scholie in first place? Shouldn’t their compliance officials have done their research (like UCLA’s) and advise Floyd to not offer him a scholie? It’s kind of hilarious.
Sideout11 … you should consider posting your comment in a separate fanpost.
Here's the amusing part for me
Remember when he “chose” SUC over UCLA? That was the angle they were desperate to spin, despite the fact that what they were really getting was our sloppy seconds. But hell, order didn’t matter then. They were “in the mix” just like we were “in the mix” and they came out on top.
Now this happens, and to pretty much everyone, order now DOES matter. Every source and anyone who goes on the record knows that UCLA backed off FIRST, and did so for the reasons that are now coming out. SUC either decided to try their luck in the NCAA sanction lottery or were unaware of what UCLA had already sniffed out and are now their hand is forced with the Bush investigation and the Mayo investigation becoming the Bush-Mayo investigation. Can you say “lack of institutional control”?
This is a pretty fun read
From Adam Rose in the Trojan Times:
Six-foot-11 high school basketball phenom Renardo Sidney did a good job keeping his college decision under wraps.
In fact, it was wrapped so well it took him about 2 1/2 minutes to open a box containing a baseball cap featuring the logo of his choice — the USC Trojans.
The packaging was his mom’s idea, an endearing touch that paired well with a heartfelt message from Sidney to his Fairfax High teammates and a speech from a doting Godmother who admonished the media to be respectful of her little, er, big boy.
“Inside that body — that talent that God has given these kids — is a human being,” said the Godmother in front of the crowd gathered in Fairfax’s gym. “So try to get your facts right.”
It was a real All-American scene — warm, loving, hyped up, and with a little suspicion and gossip swirling in the air.
Sidney actually is an All-American, making it three straight seasons Tim Floyd has lured one to play for USC.
Kind of cute. I guess the question is why didn’t anyone in Southern Cal raised the red flag when Floyd was “luring” Sydney?
And here was KNBC lapping up the spin of Sidney choosing USC over UCLA:
Then there is the incoming rock star, Fairfax high’s Renardo Sidney — a super talented 6-9 power forward who has been on everybody’s radar for years. He chose USC over schools such as UCLA and Memphis. Now all he has to do is get a high enough score on his SAT and he is a go-to Trojan player next season.
LOLOL
People still wonder why we laugh at LA’s traditional media.
yep, saw this earlier today too
Overall, a good, short read, but I didn’t particularly like how they lumped UCLA in with u$c.
Looks like he edited it
Just read it again and my quote isn’t there anymore. Too bad he didn’t have the stones to leave it up, caving in to a weak attempt at moderation. It was there though, and much like that game where you say the first thing that comes to your mind after someone says a certain word, evidently the thing that came to Eamonn Brennan’s mind when he heard “Tim Floyd” was “Dirty”.
Wha...?
Your quote was there originally. I can’t believe he edited it out.
Everyone is so scared of big bad SC and for no good reason.
Like I’ve been saying for years: no one—not even Trojans—gives a rat’s ass about basketball over there. It’s ok to say it’s a dirty program and/or the team sucks. No one cares! They’re lucky if they get 15 drunken idiots to attend any of the games. The only people who seem to glorify the program are a few of the dolts at the Incredibly Shrinking Times and yes, that means you, Chrissy Dufresne.
Stepping off soapbox now.

Anyone else think that if Sidney was still with suc, there would be no article at all? This article doesn’t really take suc up to task but is an indictment on Sidney and his family. This is the same paper that ignored Bushgate and OJ Payo and all the other transgressions over at Fig Tech.
Ask Warren Buffet about his take on the fishwrap
This isn’t the exact quote, but it’s something like newspaper publishing is the only industry in the country in which Buffet would not invest under any circumstances. (It was in the Yahoo news today, but finding an article confirming that the newspaper business is disappearing is just not worth the minimal effort.)
Buffett on newspapers...
“For most newspapers in the United States, we would not buy them at any price,” he said. “They have the possibility of going to just unending losses.”
As long as newspapers were essential to readers, they were essential to advertisers, he said. But news is now available in many other venues, he said.
Berkshire has a substantial investment in Washington Post Co. He said the company has a solid cable business, a good reason to hold on to it, but its newspaper business is in trouble.
