Trouble for the U$C* Basketball team?
Trouble in TrOJieTown? In the latest news, looks like senior Marcus Johnson will be jumping ship and going pro...
According Scott Wolf, Johnson told Floyd he will be going to the NBA. This after being granted an extra season of eligibility.
I'm not sure how to view this. Is he hard up for cash? Does he know something about the $C* bball program? Does he really hate school?
Making this even more interesting, in my opinion, is the fact that Johnson doesn't have a very deep body of work. Next year was suppose to be his time to shine looking at the depleted $C* bench. He transfers from UConn, has some issues, plays decently. Why go pro right now? Definitely not 1st rounder, and most likely not even 2nd round. Interesting... Guess there's just more room for Lil Romeo to shine!
This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of BruinsNation's (BN) editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of BN's editors.

The short answer is:
Is he hard up for cash? Does he know something about the $C* bball program? Does he really hate school?
Yes.
He’s a Trojan.

Can you really blame him?
With the roof ready to collapse on the entire Athletic Department.
Boy oh boy will $C basketball be junk next year

By my count, that leaves them with 6 players available at this moment….

But they've got Lil Romeo
Everything will be just fine.

Is it odd that a USC* alum is the basketball program's harshest critic?
Check out this article. Are things even worse in Troy than we suspected? Ouch…

Meh
Not sure how harsh that criticism really is when we read observations like this:
I know Floyd to be a smart, shrewd person. And directly paying cash to a handler is neither smart nor shrewd.
That falls in line with predicted excuse number 3.

Still, nice to see some form of journalist at least willing to talk about what’s going on. You have to know that the LAT would be salivating at the mouth if anything remotely similar was reported at UCLA…

Wow, Wolf. Didn't know you had it in you.
He makes Floyd sound like Lavin. Complete lack of leadership.

Rats leaving the sinking ship
The LAT confirmed impaulv’s scoop this morning.
Apparently, Floyd’s players aren’t stupid: they know they need to get out of that program and pronto.
Unfortunately, there are only about 3 people at SC* who actually care about the basketball program. The good news is that we will continue to own Pauley East.
One question: Petey recently commented that sports programs at the top draw the greatest scrutiny. I may have missed something, but the gap-closers haven’t been near the top of anything since, um, well, since never. Do programs which are consistently mediocre also draw the greatest scrutiny? Maybe some hard-hitting journalist will ask Petey this question.
A final question: Surely Floyd has seen the writing on the wall for some time now. Why didn’t he take the Arizona job?

Well, if you know you are a shaddy character
then it may make sense to stay at the school with the best legal department.

Assuming
that he was in fact the one who turned down Arizona, and not the other way around…maybe they just let him save face, knowing that his downfall was coming anyway…
But hey, what do I know. I’m just the 800 lbs bruin in the room.

That seems highly
unlikely as most organizations do not operate in such a manner. They had no reason to try to ‘save’ Timmeh’s reputation, and thus would not provide such a courtesy at their own expense. It seems more reasonable that he knew that the hammer would follow him into the dessert anyways, so why not stay close to home where he has u$c*’s legal department squarely behind him.

yeah the whole notion of Floyd not taking the Arizona job
is almost as funny as ucla7477’s Simon/Garfunkel parody.
Yeah … Timmeh turned down a gig at Zona to stay at Pauley East … uh hum … Sure Timmeh.

Birds of a Feather.....
Leave it to Timmie to follow up Cheatie’s pasting of an underclassman going pro with a nice rant of his own. From the Sporting news.
Forward Marcus Johnson became the fourth USC basketball player to forego college eligibility and enter the NBA Draft — news that didn’t sit well with head coach Tim Floyd.
“Kansas has two players who would have been NBA lottery picks, Cole Aldrich and Sherron Collins, and they are returning to school,” Floyd told the Los Angeles Times. “Good for them. Our guys get an offer from Islamabad and they’re gone.”

Always classy
Timmeh just doesn’t get it. I wonder how many more recruits* he lost with that statement?
*Recruits in this context meaning only the first guy in the two-player package. I’m not counting Lil Romeo and his ilk.

We should probably count Lil Romeo
he may be their best returning player next year!
by bornagainbruin on Jun 3, 2009 1:37 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
True
It looks like he’s going to be a starter, the way things are going. I understand Guillory is starting to pal around with some of the good intramural players, and will be handling their negotiations with Timmeh.

Timmeh doesn't contact walk-ons
Walk-ons will contact him.
There may be more truth to this statement than I realized in the near future.

Well they still have that forward who plays ball-busting defense.
