The NBA's Deadliest Shot
J.A. Adande, formerly of the L.A. Times has written a great article on Lew Alcindor and his unstoppable hook shot. Story comes with a good video about Kareem as well.

The sky hook
Is a thing of beauty. Poetry in motion. It’s surprising that more guys in the league don’t do it considering there are certainly enough guys with the athletic ability.
The influence of Coach on Kareem seems pretty obvious.
Honest, articulate, and humble even though he should be arrogant.
watching that video tribute
brought back very fond memories of Showtime. It really was something special. And DAMN they were right, his shot was automatic! I don’t remember him ever getting blocked. And he could nail that shot from anywhere on the floor!
A coach is someone who can give correction without causing resentment. John Wooden
Even I used the sky hook!
Mike Dunleavy put it best: if you want to make 10’s of millions of dollars, practice the sky hook. If you don’t want to make 10’s of millions of dollars, don’t practice it.
It’s gotta be all about the flash and the dunk, right? I know many big men who could really use this shot and emerge from mediocrity. Who cares if it’s not macho? A multi-million dollar contract because you can score 20 pts a game is plenty macho!
But hey, what do I know. I’m just the 800 lbs bruin in the room.
Shocking news
J. A. Adande wrote a good article?
