Dixon, Theus, and Jeff Van Gundy to SUC: N-O
Earlier this week, on multiple occasions, USC was rebuffed by Pitt coach Jamie Dixon for the job, which opened up when Tim Floyd resigned. Dixon was and remains USC's top target, but he has told the Trojans he's staying at Pitt, as his family has no interest in moving from Pittsburgh to Los Angeles.
This is the sports definition of radioactive here, folks.

Not surprised
I know there was a lot of talk about how Dixon was interested in coming back to southern California, and I’m sure he still wants to come back. I think he will come back, maybe to Westwood, depending on how long Howland wants to hold on to his dream job.
But, as interested as he might have been in returning to southern California, the fact that U$C is not only a major joke of a program, but is facing imminent sanctions, is just too, as Ty says, radioactive for anyone but a proven loser like Kevin O’Neill.
Fine with me: I’ll enjoy continuing our dominance at Pauley East.

I agree with you:
I really think Dixon wants to one day return to the LA area, but as another poster pointed out in another thread, he did work for CBH, and it’s clear he’s taken to CBH’s style, which means, like CBH, integrity and honesty are important values to him, values which do not exist at U$C*.
I fully expect you to be proven correct, in that Dixon will return to LA. With U$C imploding, I hope it means he’ll be returning to lead the good guys rather than the third-rate cheaters across town.

The other scenario
U$C* cans both Garrett and Sample at the end of next season (or they could just leave based on “retirement”) so they could get down on their knees and beg the NCAA saying “look we cleaned house! but please please let us keep Pom Pom”). O’Neil turns out to be a flunkie like he has everywhere else and gets booted in three years and then SuC takes another run at Jamie. I can see that happening.

Would not be surprised...
…if that happened just as you said. I think Sample survives but Garrett is going to get axed, because ultimately they’ll have to choose who they want to sacrifice: Cheatey Petey or Garrett. I don’t think Timmeh will be enough for the NCAA and someone will have to answer for a lot of what the football program got away with.
I can already hear the party line that losers like Splashme and U$C* will run with: Pom Pom was completely unaware of the transgressions and was focused on keeping his players in line and unbeknownest to him, Garrett and his people were giving all of these shady characters access to the football players. When that BS comes out, don’t be shocked.
O’Neill will fail. He always does. I was reading earlier that he got called “Bob Knight Lite.” If by “Lite” they mean without any of the success and championships, then sure, it fits.
Hopefully, another southern California program will make a run at Dixon in the next few years, depriving U$C* of the chance to swipe him away. I mean, there isn’t much else besides us, so I doubt it happens, but it’s nice to dream, right?

Dixon
One thing about Dixon that is interesting to me. I like the fact that he is a Howland disciple. I like that a lot. However, is there any evidence that he can build a program from scratch (Howland did it three times)? That’s a genuine question I have and right now I am not sure about the answer.
