Doyle: Just$C* Treats Basketball Like A "Neglectful Parent"
Make sure you don't have any food or coffee in your mouth when you read this piece because you will LOL and spit all over your screen:
Hiring Kevin O'Neill confirms just how much trouble the USC basketball program was in -- and still is in -- thanks to the Trojans' previous coach. Scummy Tim Floyd resigned amid an NCAA investigation into his scummy dealings with scummy O.J. Mayo and the scummy losers who were hanging around Mayo back when he was a high school senior.
Even with a brand-new facility and the plummeting stock of longtime Pac-10 bully Arizona (thanks in part to Kevin O'Neill!), the Trojans couldn't give this job away to a real candidate. Why? Because the Trojans must be in deep, deep doo-doo with the NCAA.
Whatever USC told its first two or three or 14 choices about the NCAA investigation, it was bad. So bad that it scared off all of them. All of them but O'Neill, who will just reinvent the game and have the Trojans winning 20 in no time.
By hiring O'Neill, USC also is dropping to its knees in remorse before the NCAA, which still is looking into the only sport on campus that matters to USC athletics director Mike Garrett, the USC football program. See, Kevin O'Neill is clean. He's not a cheater. Say what you want about Kevin O'Neill -- but don't say that only a stupid dead man could like him; that's piling on -- but you can't say he's dirty. You know what he is? He's Bob Knight Lite. Big jerk. But a big, clean jerk. Hiring O'Neill lets the NCAA know that your school is serious (finally) about having a clean basketball program.
Not that having a clean basketball program matters at USC. It doesn't. The basketball program at USC is something to be pitied, because it suffers from awful neglect. Hiring Bibby was neglectful. Trying to hire Majerus was neglectful. Tim Floyd? Awful. Mike Garrett simply didn't care. His baby is the football team. Think about it: USC basketball will go into the 2009-10 season with the guy who couldn't cut it as the interim coach at Pac-10 rival Arizona. That's some neglectful parenting right there -- like having a fat kid and feeding him Little Debbies all day long. It's so wrong, it's cruel.
Read the rest of it here.
Now to be fair I don't care much for Doyle's take on defense. However, the crux of his point which is how Just$C* couldn't even get their hands on a C-List head coach is dead on. Everyone knows something must be up otherwise Timmeh and 8 recruits wouldn't have packed up and left a scandal tainted program within a matter of weeks.
GO BRUINS.

LOL
that is a funny article.
One point I would contest is why does he think SUC was honest with the coaching candidates about how much NCAA trouble they were in? They are never honest about anything. My guess is the coaching candidates knew for themselves..

Yeah, this is what they told potential coaches:
“We are getting major sanctions on our BB program. As bad as that is, we will also do anything to the BB program—or any other non-football program—so that the NCAA will leave us alone. In other words, you will be a sacrificial victim if in the remotest sense it will help our crooked, over-hyped, POS football team. Thank you for your time.”
Troy will fall.

The glaring question to me
If U$C* and Tim Floyd are all sooo innocent why did Timmeh leave?

Yep
My gripe is that whatever happens, regardless of how many fingers get pointed, it’s always the person making the accusation who is the bad guy. No responsibility for the university, just excuses OVER and OVER again. Doesn’t that get tedious for them, mentally or logically? I mean, I would feel like an idiot if I had to constantly show my support for my University by disparaging anyone who accuses it.
So why did Floyd leave and not offer a word in his own support? Why hasn’t the university offered any support? Why did he not take the job at Arizona?
This is what I think happened: Arizona wanted some sort of assurance that he was not going to leave $UC* in scandal, therefore reflecting poorly on them. Timmeh comes back but is forced out by the university to protect the football program. Every Trojay says “Poor poor Timmeh, crucified by the media and forced out without a single shred of evidence.” That might be case (not!) but doesn’t that go to show that $UC* is the bad guy? I cannot believe Trojays who, with one side of their mouth say that Timmeh was crucified and with the other praise $UC* in every way. Who is the bad guy here? UCLA?
Troy will fall.

I can't believe I forgot that excuse
It’s UCLA’s fault. I believe this is an adjunct to the Chewbacca defense. It’s UCLA’s fault.

What's even more epic
These tools think Timmeh actually had the option to leave for Zona. They are not considering whether it was Arizona who after doing some due diligence perhaps decided they didn’t want to touch radioactive garbage from South Central.

I'm glad they got O'Neill
instead of one of the Lakers assistant coaches- Brian Shaw or Jim Cleamons. An analyst from yahoo sports said on the radio that Lute Olson was fed up with O’Neill because he was bad mouthing the program and just yapping too much. He also said that O’Neill constantly curses (as much as Kevin Garnett)- loud and often- and that he really drove Olson nuts. In short, suc has another lunatic on the sidelines for a coach.
I’m ready to throw a suc probation party once the ncaa decides to put sanctions on cheatie petey and his program (not holding my breath).
