Arron Afflalo traded to the Nuggets

The Detroit Pistons traded Arron Afflalo and Walter Sharpe to the Denver Nuggets for a bag of chips today. As a Lakers fan I'm a bit disappointed to see Afflalo is going to be playing on a hated rival. Is Joe Dumars giving the Nuggets a contender? First Chauncey Billups for Iverson, now Afflalo and a stiff for a future second round pick. I was hoping Afflalo would get some PT with Stuckey traded away but I guess Detroit is committed to turning over the team, starting with the 2008-2009 opening day starting back court.

This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of BruinsNation's (BN) editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of BN's editors.

I'm pretty sure that any GM in the NBA

would rather have Stuckey than Affallo on their team. Stuckey has shown that he’s getting better and better every year. Affallo still has alot to prove. During the time he started March 17- March 26, he was too inconsistent. One night he’ll average 16 or 25, and the next he’ll average 4 or 2(twice!)

Can you also clarify this for me: " I was hoping Afflalo would get some PT with Stuckey traded away…"
Stuckey is still on the team… and I believe Stuckey is running can run all three posiitions (1,2,3.)

Sorry....

I thought this deal went through. Probably not going to happen now.

Stuckey was not traded

PT would have been hard to come by with the Stuckey/RIP/Gordon trio. AA could play his way into some PT by playing D and hitting the perimeter shot. Jones can’t shoot if his life depended on it.

First name of Jones?

I seem to have drawed a blank of a player named Jones on Detroit..

And your right, Detroit would have had a problem fitting Arron Afallo inside the lineup of Stuckey, RIP, and Gordon in a lineup.

Dahntay (sp!) is going to Indiana.

He is supposed to sign a free agent deal with the Pacers (though I haven’t seen that confirmed).

Note who the writer on the Nuggets blog said he would like to see in Denver to replace him…

I don't mind the Nuggets so much.

Not to mention we’ll get to see him play more often. Assuming that as a Western Conference foe, they will have more game scheduled against our beloved Lakers than an Eastern Conference foe.

Don't forget

That one of our all-time favorite Ben Ball warriors will now be donning the familar blue and gold. Sure, it’s in Denver, but Arron makes those colors look good. ;)

When did the Nuggets become a "hated rival" of the Lakers?

Maybe Nuggets fans don’t like the Lakers b/c of their dominance, but I’ve never felt like the hatred was reciprocated.

As for the deal itself, I agree w/ the consensus here. Afflalo was never going to get much of an opportunity for playing time; and honestly, I was worried that his situation there would result in him being out of the league in a short time. Now he gets a chance with a team that needs some depth at shooting guard and seems to be slowly committing themselves to defense. It’s a great opportunity for Mr. Afflalo.

Nuggets aren't hated as a rival, like Boston

we respect their tradition and the fearsome match-ups of the past…the Nuggets are hated because they are a team full of gang bangers and thugs

O.A.

Tradition?

Hmm. Not sure what sort of “tradition” the Nuggets have. No championships, no Finals, 20 yrs between conference finals. Not much there.

Nuggets fans are bitter at the Lakers because the Nuggets always lose to them. And the Kobe case in Vail didn’t help anything.

As for the Thuggets label, it’s a bit undeserved. Iverson is gone. Camby is gone. D Jones (best tackler) is gone. They started playing defense last year after years of not even speaking the word, so maybe that comes across as dirty. And there are a lot of tattoos on the court. But the arrival of Chauncey has classed the place up a lot, Carmelo seems to (finally) be growing up, and AA makes any team look better to me.

I think Ollie meant that the Celtics have tradition

our rivalry with them is due to our tradition of playing each other. We don’t have that with Denver

Ah

Got it. You’re right. I read that as Nuggets tradition. Sorry, Ollie. My bad. You can see why I was confused.

I for one...

Love this trade! I was really hoping to see Collison get picked up in the draft, oh well. Hope I can find an Afflalo jersey for myself and my son, but I doubt it…

How’s life treating you Greg?

Denver Post quote

“We consulted Chauncey,” Warkentien [Mark, Nuggets VP of basketball operations] said. “Chauncey gave a more than glowing recommendation (bold mine). We think (Afflalo) can help us on the floor, and we think he can help us in the locker room.”

Also, AA was on one of the local afternoon sports talk radio shows yesterday. One of the hosts is Scott Hastings, who was a NBA backup center for the Detroit bad boys among others in the 80’s. Scott brought up the Gonzaga game, and how AA, in the middle of the bedlam after that amazing win, went to Adam Morrison to console him, and how Scott still thinks of that as one of the classiest acts of all time.

The more talk I hear around town from players, execs, and media, the more it sounds like this will be a great opportunity for AA.

And I’m good, Logan, thanks. You? Looks like we may have a reason to root for the local team, huh?!
