New Blog: The Boxing Bulletin for Boxing Fans!

Another week, another summer list. This one isn't horrible. John Wilner (the former UCLA beat writer for the Daily News who is now over the San Jose Mercury News) has few Ben Ball warriors in the first three teams. But I wonder why JF is missing from it? GO BRUINS.

I forgot how good Sam Clancy at SUC was

He was an unbelievable college player who just wasnt’ big enough to play big in the NBA

the stanford players

im surprised that he put Childress on the 3rd team and Casey on the 2nd. They were both absolutely ridiculous and both totally dominated for multiple years.

Of the six guards

Only Harden didn’t stay at least three years so that could explain why JF was left off.

Hmm

Guess that could be close call. I still think JF meant as much if not more to UCLA than Harden did for ASU. Plus JF led us to an actual conference championship and the Final-4. Then again that’s probably the hopeless homer in me.

Poor Kapono

He had the misfortune of being born a few years too early and missed the Howland Renaissance.

He also had a few rough years at the start of his pro career

A transition which undoubtedly would have been easier had he been able to receive CBH’s coaching.

Interesting

Your comment made me wonder if Kapono would have been a Bruin had CBH been there. I’m not saying that he wouldn’t have, but Kapono doesn’t strike me as a CBH type of player.

It would be interesting to take a look at some of Lavin’s recruiting classes and imagine what CBH could have done with them. Despite his complete inability to coach, Lavin did recruit some amazing athletes at the beginning of his tenure.

That's a good question

While Kapono might have gone somewhere else, I think UCLA would have probably landed Childress and Jacobsen under Howland.
