I know, I know
how can I be surprised but really? The lat can’t even remember that these dudes are BRAND NEW this year? There was so much buzz around their recruitment. Yeah right, they were sitting around as redshirts all last year while the OL suffered. I might expect that from an out of town newspaper or something national that doesn’t pay close attention but our local paper? Sadly, they don’t pay attention either. Dopes.

We get one of our best O-Line recruits in a while (Hasiak)....
and within a month the LATimes
1) puts up a picture of up a starting D-Lineman and calls him Hasiak.
2) says Hasiak may go on a mormon missions, and
3) now says Hasiak is a redshirt freshman.
If their standards for accuracy are this low for the rest of the paper, then they may as well market themselves next to the National Enquirer.

I should note
that Su’a-Filo, Hasiak, and Williams were confirmed as starters as well.

And did anyone notice this:
“Defensive end Keenan Graham, a freshman, suffered a broken jaw in the scrimmage.” YIKES! Wonder how that happened???

Not sure what to think about this
As for his blocking, Neuheisel said, "he is getting better, but it is still something that he needs to work on, and something we need to focus on daily. You have to understand that he doesn’t have his main arsenal, which is the cut block. We’re not letting him do that to our guys."
Google “cut block,” and you get a mix of techniques, opinions, and legalities. Sometimes it’s legal; sometimes it’s not. Some coaches think it should be banned outright because “A cut block is an illegal block that is used to hurt players.” I think it’s illegal in the trenches and when the blockee is already being blocked.
I can’t believe that CRN encourages dirty, or even borderline, technique. What did he mean by this?

You're allowed to cut block unengaged players
In fact, it’s primarily how running backs block in the backfield, because they’re always picking up either an oncoming rusher or cornerback. The concerns around cut-blocking is more around engaged d-lineman where someone else comes in and cuts them as well, while they’re engaged.
You’ll see, if you look carefully at a lot of film on running back blocking, that a vast majority of that blocking is cut-blocking. Perfectly fine. I think you may be confused between ‘cut blocking’ and ‘chop blocking’. The rule around cut-blocking is drawn in such a way so that the on-rushing defender must have an opportunity to side-step or jump over the blocker.

Nah, in my totally non-expert opinion
cut blocking isn’t dirty, and it’s the only way for a lot of these guys to get a block in. When I played dline and lb, I never felt it was dirty anyways. It’s just something you have to avoid. As far causing injuries, I don’t think its significantly more dangerous than a lot of other types of blocks.
