On the WR Rotation
I'm not sure how kosher this is since the content is under a subscription firewall, but according to Tracy Pierson at BRO Marvray was practicing with the scout team today. This could be an indication of whether or not he will be redshirting given the depth we have at receiver.
Randall Carroll and Jerry Johnson got in the regular rotation, but again it's all subject to change based on performance. FWIW, Thigpen was held off the scout team leading to the conclusion that this guy is going to get some playing time and will not redshirt. Like a lot of folks around BN have already been saying, both he and Carroll are far too valuable in terms of big-play ability that will make it difficult to leave them out of the rotation.
Lastly, Pierson believes Tony Dye is close to being named the starter over Glenn Love given their respective performances this fall and that Dye has been playing with the first team defense lately. Apparently the coaches have gotten more intense as practices are now closed to the public. Good to see players and coaches getting serious as game week will be here soon enough. That is all.
Just another reason everyone here should supplement their daily dose of Nestor with the fantastic content that Bruin Report Online provides via Pierson, Brandon Huffman, Greg Hicks, et. al. Cancel the Times and replace it with BRO!!! (if you could even compare the two)
This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of BruinsNation's (BN) editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of BN's editors.

Thigpen
can still get some time in before determining if he will redshirt. I’m not exactly sure what the percentage is, so someone correct me if I am wrong, but I believe if they play less than 10% of the season then they are still eligible to redshirt (I don’t know how the 10% is calculated).
CRN can make a determination if special teams KR (PR?) is enough to use a year of eligibility – or if he can actually break into RB rotation, but it seems he is pretty far down the option list there…
Free Brandon Wood!
I'd put him in
just to give Franklin a breather. The defenses are going to get tired of chasing all that speed. He really might be the answer to getting yards when there are no blocks to be found.
The Times is bad
but lately, the OC Register has been abysmal.
Oh come on!
Marcia Smith is awesome! So objective!
The Orange County Register is run by the Swift Boat Trojans For the Truth.
But hey, what do I know. I’m just the 800 lbs bruin in the room.
Reading their sports coverage
of UCLA is just plain depressing. Out of all the outlets, I think they are the most negative. I finally thought they were changing a little when they released 12 UCLA players who could start for USC (the number might be wrong), but then 1 day later they release 135 Trojans who could start for UCLA.
The headline for their scrimmage coverage? “Bruins Appear to be Running Place”. Ya, that’s what I went home thinking about…. NOT.
Definitely depressing
But doesn’t come as a surprise. Journalism these days is a joke…most articles are inflammatory simply to generate reader response. The only exception seems to be U$C…I’ve seen very few negative articles about their program (with the exception of Yahoo!). Perhaps they are part of the Disney/ABC/ESPN love triangle? Oh wait…
Go Bruins.
I am pretty sure the way you posted is kosher
and I completely agree w your last para. Tracy, Brandon and Greg are fantastic when it comes to covering UCLA sports. Their coverage on frontpage of BRO is well worth the subscription.
I believe that the 10% rule only applies if the player in question gets injured. If Thigpen plays even a single play, he would burn his redshirt unless he suffers an injury prior to playing in 10 (actually I think it may be 20) percent of the team’s games. I recall that in Dorrell’s last season Dominique Johnson played one play on a special teams coverage unit and burned his redshirt. The school later applied for a mea culpa please grant him a year of eligibility, but it was denied (at least initially).
